The GM Authority Take

The healthy increase in Chevrolet Brazil sales in April prolongs the brand’s positive performance in the South American country, which is the second-largest market for Chevrolet after the United States. In fact, last month’s performance represents the fourth consecutive monthly increase as well as the second best monthly record so far this year, thanks to the high demand of Chevy’s most popular models.

As usual, Chevrolet Brazil’s positive performance during April was led by a new increase in sales of the Chevy Onix – the best-selling vehicle in all of Brazil. The Onix consolidated its leadership position by adding almost 2,000 units year-over-year, representing over half of the brand’s total registrations. However, the all-new Chevy Montana had the highest growth rate, with the most significant increase of 3,087 deliveries, a volume that enabled the new compact pickup to become the second best-selling model in its segment, just behind the Fiat Toro.

By contrast, six Chevy nameplates were in the red last month, including the Chevy Tracker and Cruze, which together lost nearly 1,500 deliveries over April 2022. The Cruze once again posted the biggest drop, both during the month as well as during the first four months of the 2023 calendar year. This is due to a marked drop in Cruze production at the GM Alvear Plant in Argentina.
