First Generation
The first-gen Buick Envista was first introduced in China in August 2022, where it represented a new addition to Buick’s lineup. For North America, the Envista made its debut in April 2023, replacing the first-generation Buick Encore.
The Envista is the first Buick model to draw styling inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept. As such, the model represents a shift in the Tri-Shield brand’s design language.
The model features a long wheelbase relative to its size plus a crossover coupe aesthetic with a sleek profile. In fact, Envista creates a new vehicle segment – the mainstream crossover coupe. Prior to Envista, crossover coupes were generally expensive luxury models from European luxury brands.
At launch, there were three distinct trim levels on offer in the U.S. market: Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and the range-topping Avenir.
The Envista’s cabin features 19 diagonal inches of combined LCD screens, comprised of an 11-inch diagonal infotainment screen and an eight inch driver information center. In addition, there is 20.7 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats and 42 cubic-feet of room with the rear seats folded down.
The Buick driver confidence package is equipped as standard fare, and includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam automatic high beams, and more. Further safety and driver assist technologies are optional.
The Chinese-market Envista is powered by GM’s turbocharged 1.5L inline four-cylinder engine rated at 181 horsepower and 183 pound-feet of torque. The boosted four is mated to a CVT transmission. By comparison, the North American-market Envista is equipped with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which produces 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and hooks up to GM’s six-speed automatic transmission.
The Envista rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set (platform); the architecture is shared most directly with the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax (Chevy Seeker in China). Production of the North American Envista kicked off on May 15th, 2023 at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.
