As GM Authority exclusively teased last week, the all-new Buick Envista crossover made its world debut at the 2022 Chengdu Motor Show, which kicked off on Friday, August 26th.
General Motors introduced the all-new Buick Envista for the first time to the press and the public in China, where the compact crossover will expand Buick‘s utility portfolio as the sixth in the lineup that today includes the second-generation Encore, the Encore GX, the Envision S, the Envision Plus and the midsize Enclave. The company will position it as a youth-focused urban crossover sandwiched between the Encore GX and Envision S.
“The launch of the Envista is part of our strategy to further elevate Buick’s SUV lineup and meet our customers’ diverse needs in China,” said General Director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Cesar Toledo, in a statement. “It delivers a more youthful, personalized character of Buick and will attract new customers who appreciate high-end design, confident performance and advanced technologies that will energize their journey in every respect,” he added.
Aesthetically, the all-new Buick Envista becomes the first crossover to debut the Tri-Shield brand’s new Pure Design philosophy, and does so with a distinctive coupe-like body style that gives it dynamic proportions, including a roofline low and a prominent tailgate. It also features Buick’s new front face made up of a large lower grille, a shark nose supporting the new logo, and split LED headlights.
In addition, the new Buick Envista adopts a state-of-the-art interior design with a high focus on connectivity and ergonomics, while becoming the first model to include the brand’s new collaboratively developed Tune Melody(TM) audio system with manufacturer ARKAMYS. At the same time, the Envista is powered by GM’s new turbocharged 1.5L engine that delivers 181 horsepower.
The brand’s official dealer network began the all-new Buick Envista’s pre-sale period simultaneously with the model’s world debut, receiving the first orders on the same day, August 26th. The new compact crossover is being offered in advance in the Chinese market with a starting price of 150,000 yuan, or about $21,880 USD at current exchange rates. At this time, it’s unclear if the Envista will make it to North America.

one same more ? …. hummmm saw a motor there… is not EV what GM wants to impose ?
This is for China.
Only in the USA, it seems.
That’s really pretty. Hope they bring it state side !
The Buick Envista in the top picture is orange. Is it possible this was “the orange car” that GM was referring to a few years back, that it would surprise a lot of people or change things? (I know at the time they showed a current-generation Encore, from China, in orange.)
That’s almost identical to the new face of Buick’s upcoming electric cars.
Not bad.
I will admit that it’s growing on me more, but what a lost opportunity to actually make this car/coupe/crossover stand out from the sea of bland. All they had to do was give it full body colors and remove that nasty and ugly black around the wheels and lower edge! Just imagine looking at it with all body color? I could understand a “sport” version having high gloss painted black around the wheels/bottom for some contrast, but not this nasty black plastic that starts to look chalky after a couple years.
The only other thing I’d say is that I don’t understand why Buick needs to make the front look nearly identical to Toyota’s. This isn’t Buick’s best front end design by a long shot.
“All they had to do was give it full body colors and remove that nasty and ugly black around the wheels and lower edge!”
That’s what makes it an SUV / Crossover and not a car.
No Nate, that doesn’t make it an SUV or Crossover. It makes it look extremely cheap.
If that’s what you think makes something an SUV/CUV, then I feel badly for you.
I hate to break it to you, but that’s pretty much what makes it a crossover or SUV.
I know it’s sad. No need to feel bad for me about this stupid trend.
Apparently they didn’t appreciate my sarcasm. Let’s do this another way and this time I’ll be more nice.
Nate, black plastic around the wheels and bottom of a vehicle does not make it an SUV/CUV. I truly hate to burst your little bubble, but that has zero to do with it. It’s about off road capability. Approach, breakover and departure angle. Ability to carry more stuff. Those are all traits of a real SUV. The CUV (cute ute) was brought out for people exactly like you who think sticking non-painted plastic around the bottom and wheels gives it an appearance of being tuff. But truth be told, all that s**t does is turn chalky and discolored over time. It does absolutely nothing else to make it an SUV.
You’re still going on about this?
I don’t care anymore. Believe whatever you want.
Looks cheap, a Toyota or VW rival. Not upmarket like Envision (even biased CR loves Envision). Hate headlights. Front looks like Ford Escape. Simcoe should not be in charge of design
I agree completely. Simcoe has been terrible. They should call this the Buick Vanilla. It looks just like all the other characterless CUVs out there. I love cars and especially their design. I used to be able to distinguish their designs from small details or in the dark but even I can’t tell anything apart today. It’s just a sea of over-swooped silver blandness.
It is coming to the US. They announced it at the Buick/GMC show in Las Vegas.
Hopefully by fall, will be nice addition in Buick showrooms here?
Buick should be matching Acura and Lexus, not Toyota.
Why can’t they put the 1.5L in the Trailblazer and Encore GX? Something seem off with the $21.888 starting price – this vehicle is slotted above the Encore GX which starts at $24,400. Also not a fan of the lower grille – makes it look like a Ford or Toyota.
Mrs Barra talks about leadership a lot. GM leads here, GM leads there, GM is a leader bla bla. Buick shield has been replaced, front end looks like a Toyota, is that a GM engine inside? Were any Americans in Michigan, in Detroit involved or was it farmed out. The only way I’d like to see it here is if it’s built in North America.
There is a reason why GM is less loved than it was in the past. I’m barely hanging on
If this is the “new” design language for Buick, send props to other manufacturers who donated to it. I see other brands before I would associate it with a GM product. Another blah SUV.
