The small luxury crossover segment (luxury C-segment) contracted 38 percent to 46,992 units in Q1 2022, meaning XT4 sales outperformed the segment average.
Cadillac XT4 sales performance during Q1 2022 moved the nameplate up to sixth place among 10 entries in its segment, while also gaining segment share. This is in spite of idled production, leading to poor retail supply as a result of the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage. XT4 production at the GM Fairfax Assembly plant finally resumed this past November after being pushed back from August and September.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 introduces a few minor changes and updates for the fourth model year of the first-generation small luxury crossover that was introduced for 2019. In fact, GM initially planned to refresh the Cadillac XT4 for the 2022 model year, but complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic forced the automaker to delay it until 2023.
In the meantime, rivals aren’t sitting idly by, updated their offerings. The segment will soon gain a new entry in the form of the all-new 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale, which debuted earlier this year as a direct rival to the XT4 and Envision.
Ramping up production and keeping it humming will be key to boosting XT4 sales, while the anticipated refresh should deliver a more modern offering.
