The GM Authority Take

Although the February drop deepens the negative performance of Chevrolet Brazil sales, the results represent a considerable improvement over January’s particularly poor performance of 13,104 units – the worst record in recent months. Chevrolet’s volume in the Brazilian market over the past month remains well below the brand’s pre-pandemic levels, becoming the ninth consecutive monthly drop. The disheartening performance is the result of widespread difficulties related to the global supply chain.

Chevrolet Onix

In February, sales of the popular Chevy Onix again suffered a significant double-digit decline year-over-year, while managing to recover slightly from the previous month. The performance enabled the Onix to remain Brazil’s best-selling vehicle. Something very similar happened with the Chevy Tracker – the brand’s second best-selling model in the country. Despite the 32 percent drop in January, the model improved its February record by more than 1,000 units in February (3,419 vs. 2,376).

Chevrolet Tracker

By contrast, the Cruze and S10 were the only Chevrolet vehicles currently in production to post sales increases in February 2022 in the Brazilian market. Both models posted similar growth rates of roughly 38 percent due to improvements in available inventory, with the Cruz compact car range being the only one with positive numbers year-to-date. In addition, the Corvette C8 – imported by an independent company – registered another 4 units during the month.
