GM Canada sales fell 24 percent to 47,699 units during the first quarter of 2022. Sales decreased at all four GM brands offered in Canada, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.
GM Canada Sales Notes – Q1 2022
GM Canada sales experienced a new double-digit decrease during the first quarter of 2022, with each of the company’s four brands posting declines. The ongoing industry-wide supply chain issues significantly limited vehicle production, dealer inventories, and – as a result – sales volumes. Even so, the results represent a 21 percent improvement over the fourth quarter of 2021.
“Our results this quarter demonstrate both the challenges the team has faced, and the successes they have delivered despite the headwinds,” said Vice President, Sales, Service and Marketing at GM Canada, Sandor Piszar, in a statement. “The first quarter of 2021 was unique as customer demand in Canada was extremely strong at the same time that we had significant inventory on dealer lots. Since then, the industry-wide shortage of semiconductors required us to prioritize production of our most in-demand models. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, you can see the success GM Canada and our dealers have had getting those models to Canadian customers,” he added.
Despite the general downturn, GM’s full-size luxury SUVs posted healthy gains in Canada during the first quarter. This includes notable double-digit increases for models like the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL. In addition, the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain compact crossovers saw a significant recovery in sales in Canada with healthy gains year-over-year.
Brand & Model Sales
Chevrolet sales decreased 25.9 percent to 23,490 units:
- Chevrolet Blazer sales decreased 26.1 percent to 739 units
- Chevrolet Bolt EV sales decreased 93.62 percent to 103 units
- Chevrolet Camaro sales decreased 25.78 percent to 262 units
- Chevrolet Colorado sales decreased 18.35 percent to 1,597 units
- Chevrolet Corvette sales decreased 5.7 percent to 265 units
- Chevrolet Equinox sales increased 21.24 percent to 3,168 units
- Chevrolet Express sales decreased 59.95 percent to 320 units
- Chevrolet Malibu sales increased 15.78 percent to 873 units
- Chevrolet Silverado sales decreased 12.05 percent to 12,733 units
- Chevrolet Spark sales decreased 91 percent to 128 units
- Chevrolet Suburban sales decreased 13.4 percent to 472 units
- Chevrolet Tahoe sales decreased 1.67 percent to 1,123 units
- Chevrolet Trailblazer sales decreased 54.1 percent to 1,001 units
- Chevrolet Traverse sales decreased 65.84 percent to 566 units
- Chevrolet Trax sales decreased 84.3 percent to 140 units
Cadillac sales decreased 18.8 percent to 3,049 units:
- Cadillac CT4 sales decreased 50 percent to 99 units
- Cadillac CT5 sales decreased 28.96 percent to 211 units
- Cadillac Escalade sales increased 45.18 percent to 723 units
- Cadillac Escalade ESV sales increased 32.78 percent to 239 units
- Cadillac XT4 sales decreased 22.25 percent to 727 units
- Cadillac XT5 sales decreased 30.4 percent to 822 units
- Cadillac XT6 sales decreased 50 percent to 228 units
Buick sales decreased 54.5 percent to 1,541 units:
- Buick Enclave sales decreased 46.26 percent to 280 units
- Buick Encore sales decreased 76.03 percent to 128 units
- Buick Encore GX sales decreased 58.52 percent to 716 units
- Buick Envision sales decreased 28.72 percent to 417 units
GMC sales decreased 17.3 percent to 19,619 units:
- GMC Acadia sales decreased 60.33 percent to 409 units
- GMC Canyon sales decreased 18.87 percent to 1,337 units
- GMC Savana sales decreased 72.72 percent to 239 units
- GMC Sierra sales decreased 21.54 percent to 13,080 units
- GMC Terrain sales increased 38.96 percent to 2,543 units
- GMC Yukon sales increased 12.14 percent to 1,164 units
- GMC Yukon XL sales increased 37.27 percent to 847 units

OMG, how is that possible?
I will never change anyone’s opinion, but focus on quarterly performance can cause some seriously short sighted corporate decisions. I work for a Fortune 500 global corporation, that does whatever Wall Street dictates. The long term costs are hundreds of millions and the productivity is lower, but profits are measured every 90 days. So like we are told, we do whatever it takes every 90 days, to get our bonus payment. Nothing else matters.
Can’t sell the product if GM can’t deliver it to the dealerships!
3 months wait for our Yukon so far and according to our dealer, GM has not picked up any orders for months and do not seem optimistic for our order being completed at all.
We have started to shop other brands, we are close to closing a deal on a Wagoneer.
Mr. Piszar, it is not a lack of customers, it is the failure of GM to deliver!
