The GM Authority Take
After recovering with a one percent increase in February, GM Mexico sales experienced a decline in March 2022, when the automaker sold 1,743 fewer vehicles than during the same month in 2021. The performance brings GM back to negative figures, both during the month as well as during the first three months of the 2022 calendar year in the Mexican market.
Despite the double-digit drop, Cadillac and GMC managed to post healthy gains in March, with major improvements for all nameplates except for the GMC Sierra. In a similar fashion, various popular models such as the Chevy Aveo and Captiva saw gains in sales volume, with significant year-over-year gains. In fact, the Aveo subcompact sedan sold over 5,000 units for the second consecutive month. In fact, the Aveo lost out on the title of Mexico’s best-selling vehicle by only 442 units. That position went to the Nissan March.
Also worth highlighting is the increase in sales volume in each of GM’s full-size SUVs – the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, as well as the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV. The range continued to strengthen its dominance in the segment.
Finally, we’d like to note the significant increase in sales of the Chevy Tornado van. The small commercial vehicle posted its best sales figure to date in Mexico with 1,547 deliveries.
