GM China Sales Down 21 Percent During First Quarter 2022

GM China sales fell 21 percent to 613,400 units during the first quarter of 2022. Sales decrease at all five GM brands offered in the country, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Baojun and Wuling.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q1 2022

First-quarter 2022 sales at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac operations – decreased 24.2 percent to 262,900 units:

Buick sales decreased 27.4 percent to 163,100 units

  • The Buick GL8 family recorded roughly 33,000 sales
  • Sales of the electrified Velite family nearly tripled from a year earlier

Chevrolet sales decreased 18.8 percent to 52,600 units

  • Sales of the brand’s first all-electric model in China – the Chevy Menlo EV – more than tripled year over year

Cadillac sales decreased 17.7 percent to 47,200 units

  • The Cadillac CT5 remained the brand’s best-selling model, with sales exceeding 14,000 units
  • The first Ultium-based model, the Cadillac Lyriq, will go on sale in China in the third quarter of 2022

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q1 2022

First-quarter 2022 sales at SAIC-GM-Wuling – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – decreased 19 percent to 350,500 units:

Baojun sales decreased 76.7 percent to 20,100 units

  • GM’s youngest brand in China continues to lose volume, accumulating several consecutive quarters of drastic declines

Wuling sales decreased 4.8 percent to 330,400 units

  • The best-selling EV in China – the Wuling Hong Guang MiniEV – sustained strong demand, with sales of more than 93,000 units

  1. I don’t like what I’m seeing. With declining economies in North & South America, Europe, and China, if we’re not careful this latest global downturn can snowball into something much more serious.

      Here in the U.S. the economy is so strong that many goods are in short supply, including vehicles and single family homes. Things have gotten so tight that Wrigley Field will have to cut off beer sales during the 7th inning. To prevent Chicago Cubs fans from drinking the country dry.
