The GM Authority Take

This drastic drop in Chevrolet Korea sales during January 2022 represents the worst performance in the contemporary history of the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country, exceeding the already low sales levels during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic. As such, this year’s first-month contraction represents Chevrolet‘s 11th consecutive decline in the South Korean market.

Once again, the vast majority of the models sold by Chevrolet in South Korea suffered heavy volume losses in January, including all-time lows for the brand’s most popular models – the Chevy Spark and Trailblazer. Both vehicles saw substantial declines during the month, led by the Spark’s substantial 99 percent decrease as a result of fewer available units for sale. It’s worth noting that GM Korea prioritizes exports to North America as a result of the ongoing semiconductor shortage.

Meanwhile, the low-volume Chevy Camaro was the only Bow Tie vehicle to post an increase in sales volume year-over-year in the South Korean market during January 2022. Even so, the muscle car saw an anecdotal sales volume of only 9 units.

  1. I wonder why South Korean sales are slipping while a lot of the other global markets pick up for GM.

    1. gm should get out of Korea and China, also Koreans design shitty looking vehicles!

    2. The answer to the question is that we don’t release cars that customers want, such as lower merchantability, higher prices, single trim cars, and cars that customers want than Hyundai Kia.

  2. The blame keeps on the chip shortage. The numbers are ridiculously low: 1,344 total for the month while they keep selling Hyundai & Kia at a much higher numbers.
At least the Trailblazer should be selling good, but looks like they prefer other SUVs from other brands.

    1. “The Kia is better” But it actually is… The Korean domestics are a much better value proposition in the b/c segment than anything gm currently offers, including the trailblazer.

  3. the issue is that retailers have no product , pure and simple.
they cannot sell what they don’t have , the dealer lost in this country are wiped out save for a few full size trucks.
Most dealers are surviving by buying used cars for cash , so they have something to sell.
How can GM with all of their buying power be so short on chips, compared to other manufacturers
