The GM Authority Take
The negative Chevrolet Brazil sales results in January 2022 represent the worst performance since August 2021, and the eighth consecutive drop in monthly sales volume for the Bow Tie brand in the Brazilian market. The turn of events resulted in Chevy losing the sales crown to Fiat in January, having only regained it in December.
The vast majority of Chevrolet models offered in Brazil suffered significant year-over-year sales declines, led by the 51 percent drop in the best-selling Chevy Onix. Although it maintained its position as the best-selling vehicle in Brazil, the subcompact car range lost substantial sales momentum, selling 9,070 units less when compared to January 2021. Similarly, the Chevy Tracker also suffered a similar drop as sales fell 48 percent.
Meanwhile, the Chevy Cruze was the only Chevy model to post an uptick in sales volume during January 2022, with sales up 12 percent. In addition, the very first deliveries of the Corvette C8 commenced in Brazil. Chevy’s mid-engine Chevy sports car recorded five deliveries during January after sales began via an independent import company.

Comments
In large part it is a consequence of the chip crisis, GMB was simply not prepared for it, but the competition here has also flooded the market with news and Chevrolet do Brasil has always been somewhat conservative… but even so it is already reacting, the Ônix, flagship of the brand in our market, returned to bother the rivals.
… still does not understand why EQUINOX is not in list, neither CAMARO, both are still offered from oficial chevrolet com br GMB
In 2021 the population of Brazil was a little over 212 million, as of Feb. 20, 2021 the population was a little over 215 million! So do the math, how many people in Brazil actually own a car? Profits vs. costs, is that market really necessary, if you can afford a car in Brazil, you can certainly order a car and have it shipped from the U.S.!
… many in Brasil has not just one car, but 5 or 6 in garage. Some time in 1993 we had at our apartment 5 cars :
1. 1978 Ford Landau, 2. 1993 VWB Voyage, 3. 1992 VWB Gol, 4. 1989 VWB Gol 5. 1992 Suzuki Swift. etc.
and we did not consider ourselves rich.. really.
Maybe you really was never being in Brasil, but there has huge traffic jams, for how many cars are in streets.
Brasil does not need USA, it has developed own industry and it is an independent country.
And that’s great, I truly get you! I also believe that every country should be self sufficient and independent. The last thing you need is big business from the U.S. screwing things. My point was let the Brazilians and any other country make their own cars!
no, Brasil does not need big business from the USA
Brasil has good soft drinks like Grapetti, Guaraná Wilson… it does not need Coca-cola
Brasil has Embraer, does not need Boeing neither Airbus
Brasil has Cebolinha & Mônica, does not need Mickey Mouse neither Minie
Brasil does not need Corvette, some 5 stupids bought, but like Ferrari Brasil does not need. It had and has many Buggy companies, Santa Matilde, Hoffstetter, Puma, Miura etc did same
The Troller, Agrale etc did and does great Off roaders, does not need Hummer, neither needs EV Bolt, neither Camaro… it has the good Ethanol flexi motor
if you gonna open LEXICAR BRASIL lexicon, you see how immense brazilian car manufacturers were… it really does not need Ford, neither a Henry Ford doing a stupid Fordlandia again
… and finally no, Brasil is not only Samba, Monkeys on Trees, Soccer, Favela like the USA & Europeans think it is… But the pre-concepts still remains. Of course the population is not the best DNA like in Norway or Sweden is, but in USA it is not the best DNA too. Unfortunate had colonization in both, but that was the fault of Portuguese & Spanish, even UK and French people… not from ours.
What you mean the best DNA?.
