The GM Authority Take

After twelve months of consecutive contractions, Chevrolet Brazil sales increased substantially in April. Chevrolet’s large increase in April is a result of April 2020 being the first full month of the COVID-19 lockdown in the country, when dealerships were closed to prevent the spread of the virus.

Six of the ten models sold by Chevy in Brazil saw an increase in sales volume in April, the most significant being the triple-digit growth of the new Chevrolet Tracker and the 93.4 percent increase in Chevrolet Onix sales. The performance enables the Onix to continue as Brazil’s best-selling vehicle, despite the recent idling of the GM Gravataí plant due to a shortage of semiconductors that is hitting the industry. The plant will remain idled until June.

Meanwhile, the Tracker continues to be the fastest-growing nameplate in the Brazilian market, recording large increases both during the month and during the first four months of the year. The other Chevrolet vehicles that increased their sales in April were the Camaro, S10, Spin and TrailBlazer SUV.
