The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales experienced a decline in March. The results represent the 13th consecutive month that the manufacturer’s sales in the Mexican market were in the red. However, the reduction in March was significantly lower than that recorded in the first two months of the year, including a 28 percent drop in January and a 30 percent decline in February. As such, the March performance actually represents a significant recovery in demand for GM vehicles in Mexico on a month-over-month basis.

Chevrolet Beat Sedan

Unlike in recent months, the drop experienced in March was not the result of declines in the entry-level models – the Chevrolet Aveo and Beat. In fact, both models managed to register an increase in sales again for the first time in many months. This time, the loss is due to the drastic decrease in sales of the Chevrolet Silverado compared to March 2020, when the full-size pickup posted the highest sales figure in Mexico to date – probably as a result of a massive government purchase, such as for the country’s law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the Chevy Cavalier, Buick Envision and the company’s entire range of full-size SUVs all saw sales growth. Notably, the all-new Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon posted huge triple-digit sales increases over the past month in the Mexican market.
