GM Canada Sales Increase 30 Percent In First Quarter 2021

GM Canada sales increased 30 percent to 62,552 units during the first quarter of 2021. Sales increased at all four GM brands offered in North America, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.

Sales Notes

In addition to the 30 percent increase in overall sales, GM Canada’s retail sales increased 50 percent versus Q1 2020. The results enabled GM Canada to grow market share, gaining an estimated 0.2 points. This represents the second consecutive quarter of market share growth for GM in North America’s north-most market.

“GM Canada grew market share while delivering solid first-quarter sales results thanks to strong customer demand for pickups, EVs, and SUVs,” said Vice President, Sales, Service and Marketing at GM Canada, Sandor Piszar, in a statement. “Looking forward, we are focused on extending that momentum as our dealers continue to safely serve our customers,” he added.

With a massive 85 percent increase, Cadillac posted its best Q1 total sales ever in Canada – beating the previous record set in 1979.

Meanwhile, GMC and Chevrolet solidified GM’s truck leadership, as combined sales of GM full-sized trucks climbed 36 percent and sales of full-sized SUVs climbed 38 percent. The significant increase in sales of the GMC Sierra particularly stands out, consolidating itself as the manufacturer’s best-selling vehicle in the Canadian market.

  3. Dealer inventory is still holding back sales. My local dealer is being alloted 6 trucks a month, normally sells 30 to 40.
