The development follows a series of conflicting reports and contradicting information from General Motors. For those that may not be up to date, GM initially announced that the 2021 Chevy Colorado lineup would offer the new-for-2021 Sand Dune Metallic paint option on Colorado Z71 and Colorado ZR2 models, saying in a press release:

“The Colorado lineup will now feature greater differentiation from trim to trim and the addition of the new ‘Sand Dune Metallic’ exterior paint color option available on the Z71 and ZR2 models. All Colorado variants will also include revised front Chevy ‘bowtie’ emblems and embossed ‘Chevrolet’ tailgates in place of the traditional Chevy bowtie on the rear end of the vehicles.”

Later, GM Authority identified dealer orders for 2021 Chevy Colorado Z71 models with the new Sand Dune Metallic paint were getting kicked back. As such, as reached out to General Motors for an explanation, at which time the automaker confirmed that the new hue would only be available on the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2.

Now, however, it would appear as the situation has changed yet again, as GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with GM’s go-to-market plans that the new Sand Dune Metallic paint will actually be available to order on 2021 Chevy Colorado Z71 models before the end of the year.

The news no doubt comes as a relief to those prospective 2021 Chevy Colorado fans looking to get tasty Sand Dune Metallic paint without opting for the ZR2 trim.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2021 Chevy Colorado lineup comes with a few changes and updates over the outgoing 2020 model year, including a restyled front fascia and a new tailgate. Further exterior paint options include Black, Bright Blue Metallic, Crush, Cherry Red Tintcoat, Red Hot, and Summit White.
