Mercedes-Benz is poised to refresh the all-electric EQS sedan, with a new prototype model spotted out on public roads. Although Cadillac currently does not offer a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Caddy is expected to launch several new all-electric sedans in the near future. However, this still means Cadillac will be an entire product lifecycle behind Mercedes.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQS prototype was seen wearing black-and-white camo covers up front and in the rear, indicating that the all-electric four-door would introduce revised styling at both ends. The nose section appears to incorporate restyled headlights with a more horizontal layout, as well as a small air intake lower in the front front fascia, while the tail once again shows horizontally oriented taillights and a rounded bumper. Meanwhile, the middle section once again shows a familiar, rounded egg shape, with this particular model rolling with its moonroof open.
The overall styling for the refreshed sedan is not expected to be radically different from that of the current Mercedes-Benz EQS, although the refresh may take some additional styling cues from the Mercedes-Benz EQE. The prospect of a new Mercedes-Benz EQS Maybach variant is also quite interesting.
For reference, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is roughly 207 inches long and has a wheelbase measuring in at 126.4 inches. Several powertrains are offered, with upwards of 516 horsepower and 611 pound-feet torque available from the top-trim.
GM was caught benchmarking the Mercedes-Benz EQS in April of 2022, testing it alongside another luxury EV sedan, the Lucid Air. Fast forward to August of 2023, and GM Authority exclusively reported that Cadillac has two new all-electric sedan models in the works, both of which are considered “low H-point” vehicles. This means the new sedans will incorporate a sportback profile similar to the Cadillac Escala concept, with a low-slung look and attractive styling. The future Cadillac sedans are expected to ride on GM’s forthcoming BEV Prime platform, and will be similar to size to the Cadillac CT5 and Cadillac CT6.

IIRC, this car sits on the lots forever and is a source of consternation for every Benz dealer. Cadillac probably lost a couple of dozen sales to suckas who purchased an EQS.
Perhaps a reverse caravan of carriers FROM the dealers back to Germany with unsold inventory to retrofit them with this spectacular facelift? It might do the trick! Oh, who am I kidding?
The ppl who bent over for this half-used bar of soap deserve their fate. Traditionally poor Benz resale compounded by battery power.
Mercedes doesn’t listen to its customers anymore. The new ice E class is beautiful but these eq sedans are hideous and laughable for the msrp. Interior is decent but nothing compared to an ice Mercedes. I hope Cadillac does the ev sedans right
Ever since Daimler and Chrysler did their “merger of equals”, MB styling slowly lost its distinctiveness to the point of what we see in the ES.
Today’s iterations look cartoonish, derivative and just plain lazy …easily forgettable and lacking the understated elegance that went into their past milestones.
IMHO, put an Oldsmobile logo on the ES and it’d get blasted for a being a soul-less, ubiquitous rental-car…not the kind of product one would expect from a well-financed global Styling organization.
Ned:
I couldn’t agree more!
The fact that they are “refreshing” this car so soon after its launch is also very telling.
Having owned three MB vehicles I would never have another. Arrogant dealers, far too much unnecessary, overly complicated tech and ridiculous service costs. Now I drive a 2021 Sierra AT4. It is tough, simple to operate and rides beautifully.
The Mercedes bar o soap edition. Dull generic forgettable blob. Anything but a total exterior redesign is a waste of time!
