Earlier this week, GM Authority reported that the new Sand Dune Metallic paint option was available to order on 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison models. However, as some eagle-eyed readers pointed out, earlier reports indicated that this particular hue was available on Z71 models. As such, we’re here to clarify exactly what is and is not offered.
Here’s the background – when General Motors first announced the updated 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, one of the changes for the latest model year was the addition of a new exterior paint color called Sand Dune Metallic, which was initially slated for availability on the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and 2021 Chevy Colorado Z71.
However, those plans changed, and as it stands now, the Sand Dune Metallic paint color will only be available for the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2, as confirmed to GM Authority by Chevrolet Trucks spokesperson, Chris Bonelli.
So, in other words – Sand Dune Metallic paint will not be offered on the 2021 Chevy Colorado Z71.
As we covered previously, Sand Dune Metallic joins the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 exterior color lineup alongside six other hues, including Crush, Red Hot, Summit White, Black, Bright Blue Metallic, and Cherry Red Tintcoat. Sand Dune Metallic became available to order on 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 models as of this month, despite production of the refreshed Colorado ramping up late last June.
The refreshed 2021 Chevy Colorado lineup comes with a few changes and updates compared to the previous 2020 model year. These include a revised fascia treatment, as well as a new tailgate design with the Chevrolet logo stamped into it. The 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 stands out for its “flowtie” badging on the nose, placed just below the Chevrolet logo cut into a dividing bar across the grille.
Engine options for the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 include the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax, as well as the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ.
