Following an official unveiling way back in October 2022, orders for the range-topping 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 finally got underway in March 2024. Now, five months later, the first examples of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 have begun arriving at dealers and customer deliveries have started.
GM Authority has learned that 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 units are now arriving on dealership lots across the United States. Interestingly, the Denali Edition 1 model will be the only Sierra EV variant on offer during the inaugural 2024 model year, with production of the succeeding 2025 model year getting underway next month.
Speaking of the 2025 Sierra EV, it’s worth noting that more models will be added, including the Elevation, the AT4, and the “non-Edition 1” Denali trim levels, along with two battery capacities.
In other Sierra EV-related developments, GM Authority recently reported that the Big Red all-electric pickup truck’s online configurator is now live and primed for tinkering. However, only the aforementioned 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 model is up for configuring. In fact, outside of some dealer-installed accessories, prospective buyers do not have much customization to do.
As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV is powered by GM Ultium Drive motors and GM Ultium battery technologies. These motors develop 754 horsepower and 758 pound-feet of torque in Denali Edition 1 form and can deliver an estimated 440 miles of range from a single charge. The batteries can recover up to 100 miles of range in only 10 minutes on a compatible DC fast charger.
Under the skin lies the narrow-body version of the GM BT1 platform, which also underpins the Chevy Silverado EV. Of course, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV both ride on the wide-body variant of the same architecture. Meanwhile, production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

There’s a diesel in the 1500 as well
Apparently the diesel emissions from your modified diesel have affected your ability to think logically. This the reason the government is regulating emissions and requiring auto manufacturers to reduce emissions.
I’m pretty sure GM plans on NOT putting a diesel in ANY of the EV configurations, such as the truck in this article. To my knowledge, you can still get a diesel in every other version of the Sierra… although the 1500 gets the new LZ0 inline 6 for 2025, and not the 6.6L Duramax V-8.
Charge port on the back is a disaster for towing
No being mean here but why? Why is that a disaster for towing ?
Because at most charges you have to pull in or back in to charge and the cords are very short. With the charge port on the rear of the truck, you cannot back into the charger stall without unhooking the trailer first. There are very few public chargers that are pull through or trailer friendly. IF the port was on the front you could pull in with the trailer still attached.
Good looking EV truck. Plenty capable. But the market for $100k EV trucks is small. I think these will languish on lots and be sold with $30-40k discounts.
