As GM Authority has been extensively covering, General Motors’ array of full-size SUVs – which includes the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV – are all due for a mid-cycle refresh for the upcoming model year. With this revision will come an updated powertrain lineup, and now, GM Authority has learned when the last GM 2024 model-year full-size SUVs with diesel engines will be built.
The last 2024 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade units equipped with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, are currently scheduled to be built during the week of September 16th, 2024.
It’s worth noting that this date is subject to change at any point.
Of course, the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban have already debuted, and General Motors announced that the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine will be introduced later on in the model year. Notably, the LZ0 replaced the LM2 in the 2023 Silverado 1500 and 2023 GMC Sierra, producing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
That being said, the 2025 GMC Yukon and 2025 Cadillac Escalade have yet to be officially unveiled, although the General did released a teaser of the 2025 Yukon back in April 2024.
When the updated LZ0 powerplant does arrive, it’s expected to be offered in the Tahoe Z71, Suburban Z71 and Yukon AT4, which wasn’t the case during the 2021 to 2024 model years.
It’s worth noting that the revised 2025 Cadillac Escalade will not be available with the diesel engine.
As a reminder, all of GM’s full-size ride on variants of the GM T1 platform, while productions takes place exclusively at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

I hope they don’t discontinue the diesel completely, ever. There are those of us who value the power and economy. I cannot be convinced, even after driving one, that the highly touted 4 banger will do anything close to the diesel when towing or hauling a heavy load.
Agree, any 4cyl ICE engine with single or compound turbos will lose any MPG gain when towing and/or carrying a heavy load.
And don’t even get me started on EV range when 95% of them don’t come close, and come wintertime they lose their charge even faster.
Imagine being stranded in the middle of nowhere on I70, I80, or I90 and you lose your charge completely.
I’m not so sure salesmen really tell the full story of what consumers are actually buying when they go full EV.
When will the 2025 Chevy Tahoe with the LZ0 start production? I am waiting to factory order a new 2025 Tahoe High Country with the Diesel and am being told by a sales guy that diesel production of the 2025 models will be delayed until at least May 2025. Anyone have knowledge to confirm or provide a build date?
