Competitive Sales Comparison
Despite the decrease in U.S. sales volume, Chevy Spark sales during the second quarter of 2020 enabled the city car to continue as the best-selling model in its segment, outselling the Mitsubishi Mirage and Fiat 500, which has been discontinued in the U.S. market after the 2019 model year.

The Spark also dominated the segment share, accounting for 57 percent of the sales volume. Meanwhile, the Mirage held 41 percent while the Fiat 500 made up the remaining 3 percent. Most notably, the Spark was the only vehicle in the segment to grow its share on a year-over-year basis.
The mainstream city car segment contracted 37 percent to 9,357 units during Q2 2020, meaning that Spark sales during the quarter performed better than the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Despite a 26 percent reduction in U.S. sales volume, the Spark continued to lead the segment during the second quarter of 2020. In fact, the small car even managed to increase its segment share during the quarter – the only model in the segment to achieve the feat.
We attribute the drop in Spark sales during Q2 2020 to two complications associated with the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Sub-par supply at the dealer level as a result of production downtime and shipping hurdles involved in importing the car from the GM Changwon plant in South Korea, preventing dealers from selling the vehicle to interested customers, and
- Sub-par demand, as some customers scaled back plans to purchase new vehicles or fleets delayed orders to modernize their fleets

Ok. So far I love my little 2020 Spark. However, isn’t calling the Spark the king of sales in a segment of only three (if you include the nearly dead Fiat) just a little strange? I’d say that’s like the sports game where there are no losers and everyone wins a trophy just for playing. Just saying.

I have a 2020 spark manual transmission with around 8500 miles on it and I love it I Its getting way better mpg than factory stated I had a 2018 Nissan versa before The spark is better in my opinion the versa was hard to keep in your lane at 55mph or higher If I had it to do over I would buy the spark again
