The GM Authority Take
Chevy sales in the United States declined markedly in the second quarter, after selling 167,930 units less than during the same period last year. Predictably, the auto industry experienced a significant decline due to restrictions imposed on activities during the first full quarter of the COVID-19 pandemic – the primary cause of this negative outcome for Chevrolet and the vast majority of brands in the world, including the U.S. market.
During the second quarter, 16 Chevy models suffered significant sales declines, including the Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Equinox – General Motors’ best-selling vehicles. In both cases, the decrease was primarily due to sub-par inventory levels caused by a pause in manufacturing lasting roughly two months. However, the Silverado showed strong resilience by posting the smallest decline. In fact, the Silverado Medium Duty family (4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD) posted a very healthy 62.6 percent increase during Q2. Additionally, Silverado truck line maintained a healthy increase during the first six months of the year.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total | -14.1% | 122,432 | 142,464 | +4% | 267,166 | 256,777 |
Silverado LD | -18.6% | 89,465 | 109,930 | +4.1% | 202,390 | 194,426 |
Silverado HD | -0.7% | 31,279 | 31,496 | +1.7% | 62,052 | 61,037 |
Silverado MD | +62.6% | 1,688 | 1,038 | +107.3% | 2,724 | 1,314 |
Meanwhile, three Chevrolet models managed to increase their sales volumes despite the adverse circumstances. These three are the Blazer, Low Cab Forward truck and Trax. As such, these three vehicles join both the Silverado, Bolt EV and Spark as the six nameplates that increased their sales in the first half of the year. For its part, the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer sold 6,699 units in what was a very tumultuous launch quarter.

Everyone is waiting for the new models at this point. Not to mention their weren’t hardly Colorado’s at my dealers lot a few weeks ago.
Our dealers have several new Colorado’s on the lot and I hate to say it but they don’t look good. Sitting next to the previous model year makes them look even worse. I truly see sales falling from here on out. They should have left it alone. It was the cleanest design in Chevrolet’s line up. Now it looks gaudy except for maybe the LT. They flat out ruined the ZR2. I hope the new model is cleaned up and more professional-grown up looking like Chevrolet’s should be. Right now it’s like they’re having a front end design crisis on all truck models. Asian and Transformer inspired just doesn’t work for Chevy.
Its all the Europeans they have that are designing their trucks, convincing them that is what people want!!🤡🤥
Where I live, Silverado, dealer lots are empty. There is plenty of parking where the trucks used to be on display. Colorado, plenty of these on the lots. Colorados are not selling because it’s no longer 2018, first few months of 2019, where the only other midsize competition was a Tacoma and the 1/2 ton redesigns weren’t to dealer lots yet.
The Ranger and Gladiator are now here along with all the redesigned full sizes. The GM twins haven’t been updated to combat any of these occurrences, and the mild, exterior face lift for the 2021 model year didn’t address any of this either. GM twin sales are what they are now because GM sat on their ass and did nothing.
Wait until the 2021 GM twins start arriving in larger numbers. I think they will start selling. I think the Canyon update looks really nice.
Most everyone with half a brain knew initial sales of the Colorado and Canyon were great because GM re-entered the mid-size market first. GM should have known that they had to up their game or lose market share to the new Ranger and then the Gladiator. Maybe they want to “kill” this model due to declining sales just like all their sedans.
The 2023 GM twins are going to have the 2.7L Tubro DOHC I-4 engines that make 310 hp and 348 lb.-ft of torque.
And still come with the 8 speed junk transmission lol
It has always amazed me how few Volts, Bolts, and Bolt EVs GM has sold, but yet they plan to go all electric whether the county is read or the customer wants this or not. I don’t see this working out very well especially with the head start Tesla has.
If you are looking for a 1/2 ton pick up you are going to spend over 50K and some are even more then that. The 3/4 ton truck is right at 80K. There is no reason besides greed for trucks to be that much. Also the cars are priced out of line also. Folks are watching their pennies these days for the prices need to be in check. I would love to have a new truck but I just can not justify spending that kind of money.
That new interior can’t get here soon enough.
