The five GM vehicles in the mainstream subcompact crossover segment, the Chevy Trailblazer and Trax, along with the Buick Envista, Encore, and Encore GX, accounted for a cumulative 111,668 deliveries and a combined 29 percent segment share. That keeps The General squarely in first place overall, accounting for more than a quarter of all sales in this space.

Out of the 10 manufacturers represented here, three field multiple models in this space of 21 entries, though two of those models have been discontinued and will eventually fall off this list. When combining the sales volume of those compared to automakers with a single entry, each ranks in this order:
- GM – 29 percent share, five models (the Buick Encore has been discontinued, but remaining inventory continues to be sold)
- Hyundai Motor Group
- 20 percent segment share, five models (including Kia Soul)
- 16 percent share, four models (not including Kia Soul)
- Subaru – 11 percent share, one model
- Honda – 10 percent share, one model
- Stellantis – seven percent share, four models (the Fiat 500X has been discontinued, but remaining inventory continues to be sold)
- Toyota – seven percent share, one model
- Mazda – six percent share, one model
- VW – five percent share, one model
- Nissan – five percent share, one model
- Mitsubishi – one percent share, one model
Typically, automakers fielding multiple entries in this segment enjoy better sales and higher deliveries. However, those with a single model, including Subaru and Honda, seem to hold their own comparatively, actually outpacing Stellantis even though it currently fields four models.
GM commanded first place again ahead of Hyundai Motor Group (which includes Kia) this quarter.
Overall, sales of mainstream subcompact crossovers again grew 24 percent to 386,665 units during Q2 2024, meaning Trailblazer sales significantly underperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Even though Chevy Trailblazer sales slipped yet again now halfway through the year while the segment grew, the subcompact crossover moved up to fourth place among 21 models in this crowded space, while the Trailblazer’s corporate cousin and the Bow Tie brand’s all-new entry-level Trax catapulted to the top. That means GM sported two crossovers in the top five during Q2 2024.
Notably, the Trailblazer offers all-wheel drive, while the Trax does not.
Those two models, along with the Buicks, enabled The General to claim a nine-point segment share advantage over the Hyundai-Kia conglomerate in terms of cumulative sales volume and reign supreme again. Prior to the arrival of the Trax, GM and Hyundai Motor Group sales were neck-and-neck in this space.

I think it is pretty obvious that the trax is eating into the trailblzer sales, we might start to see more incentives to get the sales back up
Many piss poor people are financing the cheap Trax at a high interest rate and trashing the AWD Trailblazer which they can’t afford. Whad da ya think?
I have driven both the Trax and Envista. The ride and handling are superior on the Envista, but at the price point on the Trax, it is a terrific vehicle. Trax will eat in to Trailblazer sales, as will Envista eat in to the GX sales. The $4,000 price difference between the two models of each GM badge makes a big difference, especially if financing.
