Some BrightDrop Zevo 600 Units Will Need A Battery Control Module Fix

GM has issued a Service Update describing an available fix for a software defect in the battery energy control module for certain affected 2023 BrightDrop Zevo 600 vans, as well as several other models.

The software defect may cause the BrightDrop Zevo 600 van to generate a diagnostic trouble or DTC, according to Service Update number N232429880. The General instructs qualified service personnel to apply the remedy to affected units, which consists of reprogramming the battery energy control module. The process takes about 20 minutes once verified and requires no parts.

The same service update covers certain affected Cadillac Lyriq crossovers and GMC Hummer EV units also. It is offered throughout the new vehicle limited warranty period of the BrightDrop Zevo 600 vans.

GM’s program to develop the BrightDrop Zevo 600 set the record as the automaker’s fastest-ever design initiative, with only 20 months need to take the vehicle from concept to commercialization. The EV delivery van gets about 250 miles of range from a fully battery charge, while it is capable of hauling 600 cubic feet of cargo, as its name indicates.

The van is equipped with a long list of GM safety technologies and features, including but not limited to Front and Rear Park Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, and IntelliBeam LED headlamps.

The vehicle is propelled by Ultium Drive motors, which are supplied with electricity by Ultium batteries. The Zevo 600 is a FWD vehicle able to develop 240 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, or 300 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque with optional AWD.

With regard to the Zevo 600 van’s charging characteristics, it supports 200 kW max DC fast charging in addition to AC Level 2 11.5 kW or optional 19.2 kW charging capabilities. Peak recharging rate is 160 miles per hour.

While production of the model has been halted until April 2024, production of the Zevo 600 is normally carried out at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada.

  1. This is the second Zevo article that claims 200 Kw charging capability. I own a Zevo and I max at 120 Kw. Has there been an upgrade? Can get the software patch for that reason alone?
