GM recently shipped the first units of the 2024 Chevy Trax entry-level crossover to the U.S. from South Korea, part of an initial batch of approximately 5,000 vehicles earmarked for North American sales. Today, GM Authority has learned what GM’s planned sales mix will be as the Trax is arriving at U.S. dealerships.
GM expects a fairly equal sales mix between the five trim levels of the 2024 Chevy Trax. The following table gives a breakdown of GM’s sales projections.
LS | 1RS | LT | 2RS | Activ |
---|---|---|---|---|
19 | 24 | 20 | 22 | 15 |
GM also detailed what percentage of buyers is expected to choose optional packages for each trim level. According to these projections, half of 2024 Chevy Trax LS trim buyers won’t choose any options at all, while 40 percent will choose the Confidence Package (RPO code WPA) and 10 percent will choose the LS Convenience Package (RPO code ZFT), which also requires the Confidence Package.
For 1RS trim buyers, it’s expected 30 percent will choose no options, half will opt for the Driver Confidence Package (WPA), and 20 percent will choose both the Driver Confidence Package and the Sunroof Package (RPO code ZL3).
Among 2024 Chevy Trax LT trim buyers, GM predicts 20 percent will choose no additional options, while 62 percent will order the Driver Confidence Package and the LT Convenience Package. 18 percent will choose the Driver Confidence Package, the LT Convenience Package and the Sunroof Package together.
For 2RS trim buyers, 20 percent will not order any optional packages, 40 percent will choose the Driver Confidence Package only, and 40 percent will select both the Driver Confidence Package and the Sunroof Package.
Finally, 20 percent of Activ buyers won’t choose any options according to GM projections, 30 percent will only choose the Driver Confidence Package and half will order the 2024 Chevy Trax equipped with both the Driver Confidence Package and the Sunroof Package.
A total of four optional packages are available across all trims, consisting of the LS Convenience Package, the LT Convenience Package, the Drive Confidence Package, and the Sunroof Package. Notably, the Engine Block Heater (K05) also includes Active front lower grille shutters (VRI). GM Authority recently uncovered pricing for all 2024 Chevy Trax trims, including options packages and standalone options.
Buyers of the first-generation Chevy Trax also initially had a choice between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). However, GM says 70 percent opted for FWD, and the subcompact crossover’s second generation, introduced with the 2024 Chevy Trax, is offered exclusively with FWD. Another Chevy subcompact crossover nameplate, the Chevy Trailblazer, continues and will continue to offer an AWD configuration.
The General’s predictions of the 2024 Chevy Trax sales mix will have an important effect on the crossover’s availability at dealerships, since the automaker is using the port consensus model for the Chevy Trax.
Use of the port consensus model means dealers will not be able to request which 2024 Chevy Trax units they want from the factory, specifying trim levels and configurations, under the regular consensus model. Instead, GM chooses the mix of trim levels and configurations to build before the vehicles are shipped to port based on its sales mix projections. Once the vehicles arrive at port, dealers can then pick from the available vehicles for their respective inventory.
The 2024 model year introduces a number of other changes from the first-generation Chevy Trax. These include new longer, lower, and wider exterior dimensions, LED headlights, and unique styling cues for each trim level. The cabin features an additional 3 inches of rear legroom and cargo capacity boosted by 12 percent, along with more safety features and technology. Adaptive Cruise Control is offered on most trims.
For motivation, the 2024 Chevy Trax offers a single powerplant across all trim levels, the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The 2024 Chevy Trax pairs the 1.2L I3 LIH engine to the GM six-speed automatic transmission. Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set.
Production of the 2024 Chevy Trax takes place at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea.
Pricing for the 2024 Chevy Trax starts at $21,495, destination freight charge included. Notably, the 2024 Chevy Trax costs less than a 2022 Chevy Trax. The configurator for the vehicle is currently live.

I believe not offering AWD, the larger 1.3L engine, and the opportunity for buyers to custom order the vehicle exactly the way they want it are serious marketing glitches and missed opportunities. I know GM wants to keep the price down and not cannabalize Trailblazer sales with the similar sized Trax, but if companies believe that the crossover body style is basically the only body style North American consumers want, GM needs to make all types of vehicles equipment offerings available in all of their crossover models.
1.2, 1.3, FWD, AWD, they have to differentiate so as not to cannibalize sales and maintain a price point for maximum sales. Mary is doing it right, this time.
GM has made one big mistake by not makeing the 2024 all wheel drive im sure there be a lot of them setting their dealer lots in pa that.s not going to sell
Did you read the article? 70% of previous generation Trax buyer chose FWD. If you want AWD, pay a few grand more for a Trailblazer.
