GM officially unveiled the 2024 Chevy Trax last October, revealing a brand-new generation for the entry-level crossover. Now, interested customers can spec the 2024 Chevy Trax as they see fit using the official online configurator.
Customers have five available trim levels to choose from, listed from base-level to range-toppers as LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Pricing starts at $21,495 for the LS trim level, while the 2RS and Activ trim both start at $24,995.
All five trim levels are equipped with an identical powertrain, specifically the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine. Output is rated at 137 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm, all of which is harnessed by the GM six-speed automatic transmission and sent exclusively to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is not offered for the 2024 Chevy Trax. Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set.
With regard to the exterior dimensions, the 2024 Chevy Trax is longer, wider, and lower than the model which preceded it. The exterior also incorporates Chevy’s latest ICE-based styling language, with thin upper lighting signatures, vertically oriented lighting elements lower in the fascia corners, and a dual-level grille with the Chevy Bow Tie badge placed prominently in the central grille dividing bar.
As for exterior paint options, ten specific hues are offered. Wheel sizing ranges between 17, 18, and 19 inches in diameter, depending on the trim level selected.
Standout features in the cabin include a standard 8-inch diagonal infotainment screen, while LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels include an 11-inch screen. Further cabin features include Active Noise Cancelation, cruise control, and six advanced safety and driver awareness tech features via Chevy Safety Assist. Adaptive Cruise Control is available on most trim levels.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax is produced at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

I’m not comparing this to the outgoing Spark in terms of being a similar vehicle, but my comment will be based on the fact that GM/Chevy is promoting this as the “most affordable” vehicle in their line now. In other words, this is what Chevy is giving to replace the now killed Spark as the most affordable vehicle. That’s where my comment lies.
With that said, let’s take a look. The Spark could be had for as little as $13,000 if you checked just the standard box with zero options and a manual. Give that LS an auto, and you were closer to $14,000. It topped out at around $21,000 if you were silly enough to equip with the sunroof along with the 2LT trim and automatic. For those prices, you got a very good little car that was fully painted (except for the active trim) and had a lot of features even on the base LS trim.
Now take a look at the new “most affordable” vehicle in the line. Starts above where the Spark topped out, doesn’t come fully painted (ugly black trim all over), has a 3 cyl instead of a 4 cyl (although the 3 pot does have more power), and get worse MPG to boot. On top of that, this one slots right on top of the Trailblazer and just under the Equinox, which slots just a tiny smaller than the Blazer.
Can anyone tell me how this is progress? How is worse MPG good? How is yet one more CUV good? How is a price range nearly the same as the Trailblazer good for an entry vehicle? Seems to me that GM takes one step forward and 3 steps backwards.
We get it. You hate the Trax.
Also: it’s by far a better package than the outgoing model. Light years in progress. Also: this didn’t replace the spark, nor its price point. Apples to oranges comparison.
These will sell like hotcakes. Especially the 1RS and LT
Sigh: Where did I say I hate the Trax? I didn’t. Secondly, did yo even read what I wrote? Seriously. Did you? The very first thing I said was that I wasn’t comparing the two. That’s exactly what you just accused me of. For the love of god, read it. The point I made and will again for those who can’t read: Chevy is listing this as the most affordable vehicle in the lineup now. Before, that honor went to the Spark. I then pointed out some basic facts. Maybe you don’t like the facts, but they are still facts.
And yes, these probably will sell well. But you are ignoring a total group who would have purchased Sparks and probably will not buy this due to the 70% higher starting price.
You’ve dogged the Trax in nearly every article about them the last two weeks. From fuel economy to it being just a taller call that’s got an inferior “3 pot”.
Facts that are entirely irrelevant to the Trax. You’re correct. Spark buyers would probably ignore this car and go grab a rio… they wouldn’t have looked at this car anyways. Again. irrelevant. Apples to oranges.
Ummm: I’m actually dogging GM for making so many stupid moves. If you go back, you will find that i actually stated that the new Trax is a very nice vehicle and will sell well. Although I do feel GM is overlapping with way too many SUV/CUV’s and not offering enough cars, therefore leaving a lot of buyers along the curb. Why should GM snub those buyers allowing them to go to the Kia Rio or others? That’s just wrong and stupid. As for the fuel economy, do you truly feel it’s good on this Trax? 30 combined MPG is not impressive in any way. Just because I referred to it’s engine as a 3 pot, I have not called it inferior ever. Again, going back I’ve defended them using the 3 cyl as the HP/Torque are just fine. Yet how many buyers know enough about these engines and will just look at it being 3 cyl vs. others with a 4 cyl.
No matter, as you too have completely missed the point of my original comment. This article is about the price of the new Trax and it being Chevy’s lowest priced offering. Last year, that was the Spark. Thus the comparison only being made in that light.
I just don’t understand why you compare this vehicle to Spark. The Trax offers much better performance than Spark and is larger than Trailblazer. It’s true that 2024 Trax is GM’s cheapest car in America, but it’s not a replacement for Spark. What kind of nerd compares this crossover to a little city car? According to your logic, Malibu should be a replacement vehicle for discontinued Cruze and Sonic. Everyone knows it doesn’t make sense. You hate the new Trax for no reason.
You obviously don’t resemble your user name. Brilliant you are not.
Go back and read (READ) the first thing I said above. Now, explain how you know or think this new Trax will offer better performance than the Spark? Have you driven this new Trax? Have you driven any Spar from the last 4 years? Where did I say GM is replacing the Spark with this Trax? I didn’t. What kind of nerd can’t read and understand what is written? Looks like you because I wasn’t comparing those two vehicles. I was bringing attention to the fact that GM is now pushing this as their most affordable vs. their most affordable last year.
Absolutely spot on, we in the northern states and get snow, bought the new Trax and it came with AWD, why would you invest in a update, and not offer AWD?? You can’t even special order one, makes zero sense!
Looks great and I’m interested in the Trax however very concern of the engine like really a 1.2 L turbo 3 cylinders that’s way to small . It should have a 1.5 turbo 4 cylinders.
Just bought an LT love it and the turbo 3 is very peppy was pleasantly surprised when doing the test drive. Lots of updated technology, onstar for 3 years. Very nice interior with lots of room for the passengers and I think its a nice looking crossover, almost 9 to 10 grand less than the Corolla Cross.
Great analysis ! I don’t hate the Trax, I just hate that less car manufacturers will offer affordable cars!

My concern of the new Trax is GM’s ability to satisfy the expected high demand for this crossover. I am not so sure GM’s South Korean plant can keep up supplying the new Trax and Trailblazer to dealers. If only GM showed enough foresight they would kept the Lordstown plant for all GM small crossovers.
Trax gets its own plant in South Korea, that will build Trax only, not shared with Trailblazer production.
27,000 you can get fully decked trax . I wouldn’t get block heater or sunroof but that’s pretty amazing price point
True, but we in the northern states need and want AWD, why wouldn’t they offer AWD ?? Not even special order one!
Jonathan, correction, the Chevy Trax is produced at the Changwon Plant (former Spark plant), not the Bupyeong Plant. In contrary, the Trax’s sister, the Envista, will be made in Bupyeong.
Is the chevy Trax and the Envista the same car
The New Trax is a winner all day long for GM and its customers.
You hate the Trax. Don’t be a sore loser. You know who you are. Build it and they will buy.
Just for fun, I went to Chevy’s site and built a 2024 Trax. The most basic model with zero options (even still has the Toyota special plastic hub caps) comes to about $21,500.00 and the most expensive one (2RS) with most all features added including upgrade paint comes to just over $27,200.
In the grand scope of the market, that’s not bad and for $27,200 you get a lot of features. But this article is about being able to build one now and the Trax being Chevy’s most affordable vehicle for sale. I don’t feel that $21,500 to $27,200 comes in as a good range for affordability. What GM/Chevy did is kill the one great little car they had which was truly affordable and are now attempting to push this as affordable. Wrong. But then again, I’m not stupid enough to go out and have a $1,000+ per month car payment like so many people have done. It’s a vehicle, not a home.
$27,200, is the GM price and does not include “market adjustment”, which can be up to $10k, in some markets.
The ‘24 Trax could possibly be compared to the Sonic rather than the Spark. The outgoing Trax was basically a station wagon version of the Sonic.
Having said that, I like the new Trax. I like its basic affordability. What I don’t like is the additional dealer markups and forced options like extended warranties, nitrogen in tires, service contracts , paint and interior protection, etc. forced on buyers by dealers to make more money. This has to stop. Auto executives need to order dealers to stop these practices immediately and follow the MSRP price guidelines. Or else get rid of car dealers altogether and just let buyers configure and purchase vehicles online only and just take delivery from approved brick and mortar locations just like what occurred during the height of the pandemic.
The sales numbers will tell…..
