We’re Driving The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing – What Do You Want To Know?

The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is an absolute beast of a machine, dropping in as the most track-capable production vehicle to ever wear the Caddy crest. Now and for the next several days, GM Authority will be behind the wheel of this beast.

Production of the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing takes place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. The stars of the show are the performance-tuned chassis and suspension, underpinned by the renowned Alpha platform, as well as the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, the same powerplant found in the third-gen Cadillac CTS-V, C7 Chevy Corvette Z06, and Chevy Camaro ZL1. Under the hood of the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the LT4 is rated at 668 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 659 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm.

Outside, our tester 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is covered in Infrared Tintcoat paint, a stunning hue offered as a premium upgrade for $1,225. The exterior also boasts the Carbon Fiber 1 Package ($4,100), which adds in composite pieces like a new splitter, front wheel well deflectors, and a rear extra spoiler, as well as the Carbon Fiber 2 Package ($5,230), which adds in composite pieces like a new grille header, rocker moldings, and a rear valence diffuser.

Inside, our Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing boasts Sky Cool Gray Upholstery with Jet Black accents and Full Semi-Aniline leather seats, another optional upgrade, priced at $6,090. Standard spec throws in a 10-inch multi-touch HD color screen with voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three USB ports, and a suite of connected apps. Passenger and driver will enjoy the High-performance front bucket seats. Further interior details include a Sueded Microfiber Wrapped Interior Trim Package, standard Black seat belts, a Cabin Air Ionizer, and the Parking Package, which includes a Rear Camera Mirror, Rear Pedestrian Alert.

Our tester is also running the six-speed manual transmission, although alternatively the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing can be had with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. Output is routed exclusively to the rear tires, with 19-inch Polished/Dark Android finish aluminum alloy wheels equipped as standard. High-performance summer-only tires also also standard. Finally, our tester is fitted with Carbon Ceramic Brakes matched to Cross-Drilled Rotors, an optional extra that costs $9,000. Ours also has the red brake calipers, although the uprated brakes can also be had with blue calipers or bronze calipers.

The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing starts at $83,995, while our tester is $98,050. With a $1,395 destination freight charge, the final total is $99,445.

  1. WHY Did the Cadillac become a race car instead of a luxury car?

    Reply
    1. That’s not really what happened though, is it? Here’s something a lot closer to reality: the overall luxury vehicle landscape, including the product and associated customer expectations, has changed considerably over the past several decades, and the Cadillac of today is not the same as the Cadillac of the ’80s or ’70s. Cadillac didn’t stand still, and has continued to evolve with the evolving market for luxury vehicles.

Overall, today’s Cadillac is much better positioned to serve today’s luxury car buyer. It’s really as simple as that.

  2. I presently have an order in for my 2022 Blackwing. My production date is June 27th. However, my spec WILL NOT have any of the exterior carbon fiber options. Because they just weren’t available. Do you guys know where Cadillac customers can get carbon fiber things like a front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler? I found some carbon fiber parts on eBay, but ALL of their carbon fiber parts are coming from China…way too long in shipping.

    Thanks

    1. Just wondering how you know your spec will not come with CF packages? Is there a place I could go to learn more? I’ve been waiting 14 months. I have a VIN, dealership says my car is built and waiting on transit, This thread makes me wonder if the CF packages I ordered will be installed. I agree there’s nothing anyone can do, and we’re fortunate to be waiting for such a great car, but knowing if it will arrive as ordered would be pretty good.
Thanks in advance for any feedback,

  5. I have 044 of the first 250, 2022 CT5’s built. What is exclusive about the first 250 built? What will increase there collectability?

  6. How do you find the driver ergonomics for spirited driving/track application and comfort? I know different driver body types are factors but in general terms do you find all primary controls – steering wheel, foot pedals, 6 speed shifter, arm rests (particularly right side arm rest having no obstructions on centre console for absolute ease of shifting) – are ideally positioned/adjustable to provide the driver with a very comfortable and attentive upright track seating position where the controls fall naturally and easily within reach with no obstructions, particularly the centre console arm rest and shifter ergonomics?
Does the shifter and console ergonomics provide a “lickety split” shifter experience that adds to track driving pleasure?
Do you think the standard brakes are up to the task for recreational track days?

  7. I have a question? So when is the Carbon fiber restraints going away? So,my order will be accepted by GM.. I’ve been waiting in que for six months! The car is advertised all the time, but you can’t even get one if you want the Carbon Fiber pkgs!! This hold up,is totally unacceptable!!

    1. No. It’s not unacceptable. It is what it is. You have no choice but to wait, so why remain upset? It’ll eventually come. You won’t die in the meantime. You’ll eventually have your driving machine the exact way you ordered it. Patience my friend… Exercise it.

      1. Hal – I can’t give you an answer about that, and I’m not even sure that Cadillac knows exactly when, either. There were issues with the supplier of these parts, as there are for essentially everything else out there today. The attitude that I’d take is similar to that expressed by Justin above. And yes, I know what it means to wait: I just finished building a home that was supposed to have been ready in November 2021.

  8. Will GM ever put the ct6 bw AWD System in the ct5 bw? I can’t afford it as a Summer car, or how can I win a ct5 bw? It looks like GM’s finest work all around inside and out and performance. Can’t see anywhere they came up short on this car

    1. “Will GM ever put the ct6 bw AWD System in the ct5 bw?”

No. But you could just put a set of really good winter tires on this vehicle and use it year-round. That’s what I did with my ATS and CTS while living in Colorado.

  9. Why does it look like a base model and there aren’t any badges on the outside that say it’s a blackwing

  10. Is there a reason that Cadillac can’t either put a manual trans in a CT5 or CT4 V non Blackwing OR add Super Cruise to the Blackwing models? I want a last manual transmission car with high performance and close to autonomous driving ability. The styling, luxury and performance of the Cadillac sedans would suit me well and GM /Cadillac has the technology and parts & pieces I want.

    Reply
    1. Yes. The reason is the MANUAL trans! How can a system operate autonomously, then rely on the user to shift? That system requires full input control, not partial.

  11. Can I have it when you’re done with it?

  12. AMG went AWD. M series went AWD. They kill it at the track, whether they are going 1320 feet in a straight line or eating up the twisties. It’s not even close with the CT5-V Blackwing. It can’t compete except to offer a manual. What’s the point if you can’t beat the other 2? My question….why does it not have AWD if it’s going to compete in the performance sedan market! That comes from a GM lifetime owner, 6th Cadillac owner and 4th V enthusiast…..who wants Caddy to be #1!

    1. Come one man! They were trying to go out with a bang giving us the ultimate old school power machine. Huge power, manual trans, rear wheel drive. That’s how it’s been for so long and considering this is their last stab at it (gas/manual)…thats what they gave us. I would also want it on top, able to hang or beat the others, but I’m sure they could have done that, if they really wanted. The world may never know, but enjoy it for what it is… Or just get one of the cars you mentioned.

  13. I like the car with engine and 6 speed. Probably drives like a 4 door fast heavy Camaro. I want ICE in my drinks, not electricity. Oh GM, Tesla is kicking your tail. Why isn’t GM building more of these cars than a handful?

  14. Does the CT5 V Blackwing have ignition start/stop while waiting at traffic lights and does the engine drop from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders while cruising down the highway?

  15. How does the AKG audio compare with the Bose system, in reality? I’ve heard different opinions on this and I know many don’t care all that much, but I have a gen2 V and the Bose 5.1 is superb, especially playing CD’s. I realize the audio isn’t a major concern for most buyers of this awesome performance machine, but considering the price point, I would enjoy it more with a system that competed with the “older” Bose audio. I understand that high quality audio files need to be fed to the system, probably through USB, to perform well. What’s your take?
