The GM Authority Take

After being in the red for three consecutive months, Chevrolet Argentina sales posted a healthy increase in March. In fact, March becomes the first month in 2021 during which the bowtie brand is in the green in the Argentine market.

The increase in Chevrolet sales last month was the result of a significant recovery in demand for vehicles in the South American country, whose automotive market registered a large increase of 102 percent compared to March 2020, when local restrictions began due to COVID-19.

In March, five of the 11 models offered by Chevrolet in Argentina posted solid, two- or three-digit sales upticks. Particularly noteworthy was the excellent growth posted by the Chevrolet Tracker and the locally-produced Chevrolet Cruze. The duo were Chevy’s top performers in Argentina, with triple-digit increases for the fourth consecutive month. The 720 Tracker deliveries during the month made it the best-selling utility vehicle in the Argentine market for the second consecutive month, after achieving it for the first time in February.

Despite remaining Chevy’s most popular vehicle in Argentina, the Chevrolet Onix continues to record negative figures in Argentina. The successful, Brazil-built subcompact car range is being negatively impacted by obstacles enacted by Argentine authorities on imports since the end of 2020, which limits the amount of Onix units available for sale in Argentina.
