The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales decreased yet again in January, marking a negative start for the Bow Tie brand for the 2021 calendar year in the South American country. Last month’s decline is Chevrolet’s second consecutive decrease in Argentina, following the poor performance in December 2020, when the brand’s sales fell 29 percent, considerably more than the 3.6 percent average of the market.

Although a significant majority of the brand’s vehicles suffered declines in sales volumes in the Argentine market year-over-year, it’s worth noting the solid performance of the locally-manufactured Chevrolet Cruze as well as of the all-new Chevrolet Tracker. The two models were the only Chevy nameplates to stand out during January. In fact, both models registered very significant triple-digit increases, reaching their best figures in the Argentine market in recent years.

The Cruze sold 1,052 units in Argentina during January, representing an increase of 121 percent over the 476 deliveries in the same month in 2020. Notably, the compact car manufactured at the GM Rosario plant has now accumulated four consecutive months of three-digit increases in that country. For its part, the 810 units of the Tracker sold in January represent its highest sales level in Argentina since the vehicle’s local launch mid-last year.
