The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales started the year with a double-digit drop in January. This result is in line with the negative behavior experienced by the Argentine automotive market, which contracted 26 percent to 44,717 units in January, becoming the lowest industry-wide sales performance over the last 16 years.

Ten of the 11 models offered by Chevrolet in Argentina registered declines in sales volume, including the Chevrolet Onix, which began the 2020 calendar year with the transition to the second generation model. Other impacted models were the recently-discontinued Chevrolet Cobalt (down 97 percent) and Tracker (down 67 percent); the Tracker is about to relaunch with an all-new generation in the coming months. The only Chevrolet model to post an increase in sales during the month was the Montana, but its 8 percent gain added just two units from January 2019.

As we mentioned previously, the Chevrolet Argentina sales performance in January makes the Bow Tie the sixth best-selling auto brand in the market, which is a far cry from its market-leading position in Brazil.
