Powertrain

The Corvette C8 E-Ray is powered by the naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine – the same powerplant found in the C8 Stingray – and produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. What takes the C8 E-Ray’s performance up to the next level is the single electric motor mounted on the front axle. Supplied by a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, this electric motor develops a maximum of 160 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. Owners also don’t need to worry about charging their C8 E-Ray, as the battery is charged via regenerative energy from coasting and braking, as well as during normal driving.

Total system output is rated at 655 horsepower.

Transmission

Shifting duties in the C8 E-Ray are handled by the same eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission as in the Chevrolet C8 Stingray. Like with all other variants of the C8, a manual transmission will not be offered.

Co-developed with TREMEC, the dual-clutch automatic delivers lightning-fast shifts and incredible power transfer in the Stingray model, and we have no reason to believe that this will change for the Grand Sport. The transmission was designed to provide drivers with the best of both worlds: the spirited feel and direct connection associated with a manual as well as the premium driving comfort of an automatic. The double-paddle de-clutch feature allows the driver to disconnect the clutch by holding both paddles for more manual control, in addition to choosing a specific gear. This enables the drive to perform a free-rev, if and when desired.

The front-mounted motor will send power to the front wheels, while the 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline internal combustion engine will be sent to the rear wheels, thereby delivering an all-wheel-drove drivetrain.

Chassis

In regard to suspension, the 2023 C8 E-Ray retains the SLA-type front and rear suspension design of the Corvette Stingray, but uniquely calibrated for its application, and is fitted with Magnetic Ride Control 4.0. Wider wheels staggered at 20 inches in the front and 21 inches the rear allow the C8 E-Ray to achieve maximum grip, and are wrapped as standard in Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires that measure in at 275/30ZR20 up front and 345/25ZR21 in the rear. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires are also available as part of an optional performance package. Braking duties are handled by 15.7-inch-diameter front and 15.4-inch-diameter rear brake rotors, along with front six-piston and rear four-piston Brembo calipers.

Performance

Thanks in large part to its AWD drivetrain, the C8 E-Ray is the quickest Corvette to date. General Motors recorded a 0 to 60 time of 2.6 seconds, along with a quarter-mile time of 10.6 seconds and 1.1 Gs of lateral G-force.

In additional, there are a bevy of features that enable the C8 E-Ray to deliver optimum performance no matter road conditions, including:

  • Electric Assist Driver Modes: optimizes performance with Tour, Sport, Track, Weather, My Mode and Z-Mode
  • Stealth Mode: an all-electric drive mode for the street, up to 45 mph
  • New lightweight lithium-ion 12-volt battery: supports the LT2 V-8 engine’s stop/start functionality
  • Standard Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system: optimizes braking performance
  • Enhanced roster of driver assistance technologies: includes Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking (shared with all 2024 Corvette models)

Exterior

The exterior of the C8 E-Ray features the same “wide body” design as the C8 Z06, albeit with color-matched accents and carbon flash badging equipped as standard fare. Some further C8 E-Ray highlights include:

  • Fourteen exterior color choices – including new-for-2024 Riptide Blue, Seawolf Gray and Cacti
  • Standard carbon flash badging
  • Four aluminum wheel finishes
  • Optional carbon fiber wheels in carbon flash, visible carbon fiber finish or visible carbon fiber with a red stripe
  • E-Ray-exclusive body-length stripe package in Electric Blue
  • Available black exhaust tips and bright badging

Body Styles

Like the C8 Stingray and C8 Z06, the C8 E-Ray is available in two body styles:

  • A two-door coupe with a removable hard top panel
  • A two-door convertible with a retractable hardtop

Interior

On the inside, the Corvette C8 E-Ray does not stray far from the general cockpit design introduced by the C8 Stingray. An all-new Artemis Dipped interior colorway is available, along with updates to the infotainment system and instrument cluster to provide a more integrated appearance.

All told, C8 E-Ray interior personalization choices include:

  • Seven interior colorways
  • Three seat choices
  • Two carbon fiber trim packages

The C8 E-Ray will become available in late 2023 calendar year as a 2024 model year vehicle.

Production

The LT2 gasoline engine is assembled at the GM Tonawanda engine plant in Buffalo, New York.

Platform

The C8 E-Ray is underpinned by the new mid-engine vehicle architecture that underpins all variants of the Corvette C8: the GM Y2 platform.

GM Global B serves as the vehicle’s electrical system.
