GMC Sierra 1500 Wins Strategic Vision 2024 Total Quality Award

Consulting and advisory firm Strategic Vision has released its automotive 2024 Total Quality Awards, and GM performed well on the list this year. The winner in the Full-Size Pickup category was the GMC Sierra 1500, beating out formidable rivals from Ford, Ram, and Toyota.

The study notes the industry-wide price increases while prompting new vehicle buyers to ask, “Do I really love this vehicle at the given price? Is the quality of the vehicle even adequate considering expectations and price?”

Those questions, apparently, received positive answers from GMC Sierra buyers. Every car on this list gets a Total Quality Index (TQI) score, and the Sierra’s score was 564. That’s in the middle of the truck pack, lower than the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the repeat winner in the Standard Pickup category, and one point higher than the Ram 2500/3500, winner in the Heavy Duty Pickup class. Strategic Vision says that the score is “based on responses from over 77,000 new vehicle buyers during their first 90 days of ownership, combining both emotional and rational evaluations of quality and vehicle performance.”

In other words, new GMC Sierra owners are very happy with their premium, full-size pickup trucks. Strategic Vision specifically called out the GMC Sierra, saying it “impressed customers with its blend of power and versatility.” Other GM vehicles that earned spots on the list include the Buick Envista, the Chevy Tahoe, and the Chevy Corvette Convertible.

Of note, the GMC Sierra HD won this award in the Heavy Duty Pickup category in 2022 and 2023 but lost out to its Ram rival this year. Also, the GMC Yukon won in the Full-Size Utility category last year but was beaten this year by its cousin, the Chevy Tahoe.

The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 offers four engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower; the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower; the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower.

The GMC Sierra 1500 continues to be underpinned by the GM T1 platform. Production is currently carried out at two facilities: the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

    1. Number of recalls? My almost 4-year old Sierra 1500 Denali diesel just got its first recall, and has been trouble-free. What exactly is the issue?

  2. Had a software recall that took no time to update and that’s it. We love our 2023 Sierra Denali. Have the LZ0 diesel and it pulls our 6100lbs dry camper effortlessly. Also, the interior is pure luxury.
