GMC Yukon Denali To Be Sold With Turbocharged 4-Cylinder In China

As GM Authority has covered previously, General Motors will offer Chinese buyers several high-demand vehicles through The Durant Guild, the automaker’s new premium vehicle import platform for the Chinese market. Among the high-demand vehicles on offer will be the GMC Yukon Denali full-size SUV, although the Chinese-spec GMC Yukon will differ considerably from the U.S.-spec model. One of the biggest differences will be under the hood, where the Chinese-spec SUV will cradle a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

According to GM Authority sources, China-bound units of the GMC Yukon Denali will be equipped with the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the same powerplant that will motivate Chinese-spec units of the Chevy Tahoe. Both models will be available through The Durant Guild, which will also import high-demand vehicles like the C8 Corvette, GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Celestiq, and Chevy Silverado EV. The Yukon Denali will most likely be the only Yukon trim level exported to the Chinese market from the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

Notably, the TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine is not available under the hood of the U.S.-spec Yukon. Output ratings for the Chinese-spec Yukon Denali are expected to be set at 300 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. In the U.S., the TurboMax L3B is also available under the hood of the Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon, as well as the Cadillac CT4 and CT4-V.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-spec 2025 GMC Yukon Denali is available with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, which is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, or the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, which generates 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. Although the TurboMax L3B is down on power and torque compared to the U.S.-spec L87 V8, the four-cylinder still compares well to the othe engine in the GMC Yukon lineup, such as the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, which is rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.

All GMC Yukon variants ride on the GM T1 platform.

  1. Needs the diesel to be competitive over there.

    1. Yeah, but China is going all in on the EV Market also, so they probably wouldn’t even lose sleep over the absence of a diesel.

    2. That 4 cylinder is not enough to power that heavy load. We have them in Sierra’s and Acadia’s. Very buzzy and not that great on fuel. I own a 3.0 diesel and it’s torquey 460 lbs to be exact

  2. If gm where to sell the yukon in central, south America and the Caribbean in the form of 4 cylinder they would sell more vehicles. The problem with gm is that they don’t listen or study the market in those countries. Look they making the yukon 4 cylinder for China, even in the usa there is a market for it.
