2025 GMC Canyon AT4X Becomes An Option Package

The GMC AT4 subbrand has been quickly expanding ever since it debuted as a trim of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. In the GMC Canyon lineup, the AT4 trim replaced the All Terrain trim for the 2021 model year. With the 2023 redesign, the Canyon AT4X model entered the Canyon lineup, and the even more extreme Canyon AT4X AEV Edition arrived in 2024. Now, the 2025 GMC Canyon is simplifying its lineup a bit by making AT4X an option package rather than its own trim.

Previously, AT4 and AT4X were separate trims, and the AT4X AEV was an option package for the AT4X. Since all of these letters and numbers can cause some confusion, all of the above are moving under the umbrella of one AT4 trim.

The AT4X option package, identified by the RPO code XEW, includes Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear e-locking differentials, improved ground clearance and approach angles, more underbody protection, and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. Adding the AT4X package to the 2025 GMC Canyon AT4 requires adding the AT4 Premium Package (RPO PCU) and Technology Package (PDG). These option packages add content that already came with the AT4X trim for the 2024 model year, like leather seats, a head-up display, and Bose audio.

The AT4X still has an interior that’s different from the regular AT4. Its interior colorway is Obsidian Rush (HV1), similar to the AT4X variants of the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD. The interior is primarily black with red stitching, red accents around the front vents, and white trim on the dash, center stack, and door cards. The standard AT4 interior is Jet Black and Timber (brown) with either CoreTec or leather seat trim.

Since the AT4X AEV Edition was previously an option package for the AT4X trim, it’s now an option package for the AT4 trim and retains the same RPO code of XEV. Obviously, adding the AT4X package is required if you want the AEV Edition.

In the case of both the AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition, there are no major changes to the trucks themselves. The only change is that they’re now both part of the AT4 trim in the 2025 GMC Canyon model range.

The 2025 GMC Canyon will continue to ride on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production will once again take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, alongside the Chevy Colorado, the Chevy Express, and the GMC Savana.

  1. They need to make this a package across the line. You should be able to add the AT4X goodies to an SLE trim (or ZR2 to a LT) as the lower level packages are most likely to be used and needed than the guys buying the massaging leather seat box checker edition for their suburban neighborhoods. Take a page from Ford, they can add the packages to different trim levels to a point (excluding the Raptor), you could get a lower level or higher level trim with FX4 or Tremor packages then add Chrome bumper package or painted and so on. Painted bumpers suck (they chip and pit easily) and massaging leather seats and luxury car goodies do nothing when off road yet those tools could be useful in the back country. Give me an LT with chrome bumpers, cloth seats and the ZR2 lift/suspension…

  2. Why was it one beforehand why limit your customer options to pay you more money ? Constraint issue ?

  4. For me, I just can’t see the extra cost (not mentioned in the article). I think for those who can can afford the package & really want it, great! Auto’s have gotten out of reach for so many.

  5. I wish they would have gotten rid of that white & red interior.

  6. I would rather then bring back the syclone and typhoon then just another off road package

  7. To be forced to get a white accent interior trim in a Canyon AT4X is ridiculous. Really?!!

So bad is the interior color I didn’t buy the 2024 model. If it turns out the same white accent interior is the only option in 2025 model, I’m moving to another midsized pickup Mgf and will buy a competitor pickup.

  8. I agree that the AT4X interior color with White and Red is just plain AWFUL!! I’m a longtime Colorado ZR2 owner and would have loved to try the GMC AT4X. I loved the truck until I walked up to it and saw the interior color with the White everywhere. Who the heck decided this would be the only color option? I’m guessing they never get their hands dirty!
GM missed the boat on this. I would have purchased by now if they would just smarten up and give a couple options on the interior colors. At least offer a black option. White is horrible.
