GM GMT 31XX Platform

GMT 31XX is the name of a General Motors platform engineered to underpin mid-size pickup trucks and SUVs.

It debuted on the second-generation, 2011 Chevrolet Colorado (international markets) and Holden Colorado (Australia) as well as the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado (for the U.S. and Canada).

The GMT 31XX platform supports a range of 5-speed and 6-speed manual as well as 6-speed automatic transmissions. It also supports GM’s 8LXX automatic transmissions, such as the 8L45 and 8L90. It could also support the 10LXX automatic transmission family.

Concepts

The GMT 31XX platform will be updated to underpin the third-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which are expected to launch on GM’s mid-size pickup trucks for the 2023 model year. Expected improvements include decreases in vehicle mass, the addition of a new digital electrical system, and greater use of high-strength steel.
