The 2025 GMC Canyon represents the third model year of the midsize pickup truck’s third generation, for which we expect it to receive minor changes and updates.
These changes follow the 2023 GMC Canyon, which received a complete overhaul (re-engineering and redesign) for the nameplate’s third generation, along with the 2024 GMC Canyon, which saw minor changes along with the introduction of the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

- AT4 – 4WD only (T4E43)

Powertrain
The 2025 GMC Canyon continues to be powered by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in its High-Output tune. Known as TurboMax, the engine is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Engine | Power hp / kW @ RPM | Torque lb-ft / Nm @ RPM | Transmission | Axle |
---|---|---|---|---|
TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B | 310 / 231 @ 5,600 | 430 / 583 @ 3,000 | 8-Speed Automatic 8L80 (MFC) | 3.42 |
The engine continues featuring automatic engine stop-start. It can be disabled using an in-vehicle button, but it is re-enabled at each ignition cycle.
The second-generation GM 8-speed automatic transmission continues as the only transmission option.
Only the Elevation trim is available in RWD, while AT4 and Denali ship exclusively in 4WD. Four-wheel-drive models offer a two-speed auto transfer case, while the AT4X features a driver-selectable electronic locking front and rear differentials.
The AT4 and Denali trims offer four selectable drive modes – Off-Road, Terrain, Tow/Haul, Normal – and an off-road performance display. The AT4X adds a Baja drive mode.
Production
The 2025 Canyon continues to be assembled at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri by GM USA. Production began on November 25th, 2024.
Platform
The 2025 GMC Canyon continues riding on the updated 31XX-2 platform, which it shares with its corporate cousin, the 2025 Chevy Colorado.
Body Styles
Like all third-generation Canyon models, the 2025 GMC Canyon continues to be offered as a midsize pickup truck, exclusively in the Crew Cab, Short Bed configuration.
Seating
The 2025 Canyon continues being offered in one seating configuration. This setup features two front bucket seats (providing seating for two), along with a bench seat in the second row (seating three), resulting in a 2-3 layout.

We expect that the third-generation Canyon will remain in production at least thru the 2028 model year. A mid-cycle refresh could arrive for the 2026 model year.
