GM Releases Fix For 2024 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado 1500 Battery Drain

GM has released two new customer satisfaction programs that describe an available fix for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe, 2024 Chevy Suburban and 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 that are potentially affected by battery drain following an over-the-air update.

Customer Satisfaction Program numbers N242435630 and N242435631 concern an issue that make cause the battery to drain after an OTA update, possibly similar to a 2023 Chevy Colorado update issue that caused the infotainment system to run, resulting in a low or drained battery.

Dealerships are instructed to apply the available fix to any involved 2024 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban or Silverado 1500 units that are in inventory, with a hold placed on these vehicles so that they cannot be sold, delivered, traded, or used in demonstrations until the remedy is applied. Additionally, the dealer must apply the fix free of charge to any affected Chevy Tahoe, Suburban or Silverado 1500 units brought to the dealership for repairs or other reasons.

Recent purchasers of affected 2024 Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban and Chevy Silverado 1500 units must be notified via mail by the dealership of the issue and available fix. The customer satisfaction programs are offered free of charge to owners of affected vehicles, with their fixes available through August 31st, 2026. GM has supplied a list of affected VINs, with the problem expected to involve a small number of SUVs, many of which are in inventory or transit.

The fix offered in the bulletins consists of reprogramming the 2024 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban or Silverado 1500 serial data gateway module. Correcting the programming will prevent further battery drain following OTA updates. If necessary, the dealer must provide courtesy transportation to the customer while the fix is being applied.

As a reminder, both the 2024 Tahoe and Suburban are motivated by three available powerplants. These include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine developing 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The GM 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to all three engines as standard.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is equipped with either the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine churning out 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque or the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine that generates 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. The TurboMax engine is mated to the GM 8-speed automatic transmission, while the the three other powerplants are managed by the GM 10-speed automatic.

  1. Maybe they will come up with a fix for my new Suburban front passenger window that goes down all by itself and then will not roll up for fifteen to thirty minutes! $91,000.00 dollars and they can not tell me what is wrong!

  2. Geez ! Again ? Still ? Did Barra’s GM learn NOTHING from the same, identical issue affecting the Colorado/Canyon owners that suffered with the exact same problem from OTA updates ? What kind of IT or Engineering idiots are they hiring ?
