Refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban: To Tip Or Not To Tip?

GM is refreshing its full-size SUV lineup for the 2024 model year, with the upcoming 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban both set to introduce a long list of changes and updates over the preceding 2023 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned that these updates will include a new through-fascia exhaust treatment for certain trim levels.

For those readers who may be unaware, GM’s through-fascia exhaust treatment threads the exhaust pipe through a stylized “surround” that is physically part of the bumper. This surround is not physically connected to the exhaust pipe or muffler.

The through-fascia exhaust treatment differs from an integrated exposed exhaust tip, the latter of which is a stylized piece of metal that is physically connected to the exhaust pipe and muffler, and is essentially part of the exhaust system, rather than a styling piece that surrounds it. The third possible exhaust option would be a tucked-under exhaust tip, which hides the entire exhaust system, including the tips and mufflers, up underneath the bumper.

At present, current Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban models incorporate a tucked-under exhaust treatment when cradling either the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine or 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, while models cradling the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine incorporate an integrated exposed exhaust tip.

Going forward, however, GM Authority sources indicate that 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban models cradling the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine will offer a new through-fascia exhaust treatment. Models equipped with the 5.3L V8 gasoline engine or 3.0L I6 diesel engine will continue to equip a tucked-under exhaust treatment.

6.2L V8 L87 Integrated exposed tip Through-fascia
3.0L I6 Diesel Tucked under Tucked under

In addition to the new exhaust treatment, the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban will also usher in updates the front fascia and elsewhere in the rear fascia, as well as a new roof antenna design, a new two-tiered lighting treatment, 24-inch alloy wheel options, an updated interior, and more. Look for the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban to hit production this coming November.

  1. I really like the exposed tip. To me it looks more muscular than the through-facia. I think the through-facia one also looks cheaper and incomplete. Next time you are behind one just look hard at it. You can see the exhaust and lots of space through the facia hole. Looks like a half-a$$ attempt at dual outlets. Just loved the look of the duals on the old Chevelle SS 396 and SS 454. Plus the Corvette exhaust too. They say muscle and a finished look to me.

  2. Two refreshes in one generation, not something we have seen in a while for the Suburban/Silverado. I guess this means the next generation won’t be until 2026 at the earliest.

    1. When was the first refresh?

      1. Looks like I was wrong about that. The redesigned Suburban in 2021 looked a lot like the previous generation, I think that through me off.

  3. I like the look of the new Tahoe except it seems to have grown in length to near the length of the Suburban. I wish there was a short version as well. The price has grown a lot too.

    1. I went from a 2013 Tahoe to a 2022 Tahoe Premier It not only increased 6 inches in length and that’s why I bought it but it grew in height and the hood is now larger and more square so when driving you see a lot more hood blocking the roadway then my 13 that was more of a rounded body style. There is also a big difference in getting in and out of it. It took a few months of getting used to it, but I quickly learned to love it. A side story (I ordered 2 cars on the same day). I went from a 1998 6-speed manual Corvette to a 2022 Corvette with an automatic trans again I had to get used to seeing no hood just roadway in front of me with a rear engine the opposite of the Tahoe plus missing the 6-speed I sure had to get used to that, and again I quickly learned to love it.

    2. Truth. The length of my 2001 Yukon is the same as the current Ford Exploder. And now that my wife and I are empty nesters (but still working in the field), I prefer that length over that current model that is nearly a foot longer. And the height and hood shape are certainly greater than before, when it looked like they were going for a more aerodynamic shape.

  4. Wish they would bring back the 2×2 Tahoe

  5. Just the tip. I promise.

  6. Any word on the new diesel making it into the Z71 with this refresh?

    1. The strait 6 won’t fit in the Z71 as the tucked in lower bash plate doesn’t allow the longer engine to squeaze in. This goes back to the argument of why GM is building an new generation of small block vs an I6 turbo like ram/dodge.

That said, no complaints on the standard 4×4 tahoe. many early 2K tahoes Z71’s with stabilitrac would go anywhere without the fancy bumper and dual clutch rear end. Todays with standard air bags are even more agressive.

      1. I think people (including me) were hoping that the refresh would include a bit if reengineering of the engine compartment to allow the Duramax to fit.
