2024 Chevy Tahoe Refresh Spied Undergoing Testing: Photos

Late last month, GM Authority brought you coverage of the refreshed 2024 GMC Yukon, followed shortly thereafter by coverage of the 2024 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate. Now, we’re back at it to show you another upcoming GM SUV, namely the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe, caught here testing on public roads as a prototype.

The upcoming refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe will feature a new front fascia and revised rear fascia, both of which are covered in thick camouflage for this particular prototype model. We should also note that this prototype appears to be the sporty RST trim level.

Let’s start with the front end, where we spot what may be revisions to the front-facing lighting, specifically the top, primary headlights, although it is difficult to tell under all that camo. This prototype also has a number of camo cutouts across the front end, indicating the presence of a front-facing camera, as well as possibly the inclusion of the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.

Up on the roof, the vehicle antenna has changed as well. While the current model is equipped with a “shark fin” antenna shape, the antenna on the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe appears to be more of bubble or cap shape.

Moving over to the sides, the profile of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe is unchanged compared to the current model, with the same roofline and window line. However, as soon as we see the rear of the vehicle, we spot a few additional changes.

Like the current Chevy Tahoe RST, this refreshed 2024-model-year prototype is equipped with a tucked-under exhaust treatment, but the rest of the rear bumper on this prototype looks to be new. What’s also interesting is that the rear reflectors strips are now placed lower in the bumper and pushed more towards the sides.

As GM Authority covered previously, the Chevy Tahoe is the runaway champ for its segment, dominating in sales with 106,030 units sold last year, up more than 20 percent as compared to the 88,238 units sold in 2020.

Of course, the competition isn’t standing still, with Ford refreshing the Expedition for 2022, Jeep debuting the 2022 Wagoneer, and Toyota overhauling the Sequoia. Nevertheless, GM isn’t standing still either, as seen with the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe.

  1. It looks like it still has the Camaro looking front end I wish they would get rid of that.

  2. Fingers crossed for Super Cruise and increased towing ratings.

  3. It’s one of the few bright spots at GM. I can’t think of a bad Tahoe. They are not as affordable as they used to be, but otherwise pretty awesome.

I do think they need to move past the 5.3/6.2 only though.

    1. I just bought a traverse….. and I really need more room behind the 3rd row, but it was what I could afford. I had an used 01 suburban back in high school. It fit perfect and towed what I needed. My traverse struggles to tow the same amount.

I’d love to see GM make an L trim below the LS with the 2.7 turbo and Vinyl seats. Something that would be in the low 40k$.

That or a traverse XL with the 2.7, a new 9T80 transmission and a Z71 package

      1. A new traverse? I had considered one, came pretty close as it’s a other good one from GM. I wish the tow limit was a little higher though. No good reason it can’t be 5500 or 5800, which would have got my needs better.

The update should have upgraded the interior but otherwise they seem nice.

    2. Ummm they have the Duramax 3.0 offered.
Now the 5.3 should be dropped and the 2.7 Turbo brought in as it has more power.

      Reply
      1. The 2.7 has no more power with its update. Just more torque around 3000 rpm. The 5.3 makes 15% more power than the 2.7 still, and does it without guzzling gas while towing and is a more valences engine under load.

The advantage of the 2.7 is its almost 2K cheaper when paired with the 8 speed vs the 5.3 and 10 speed.

  4. Looks really cheap to me. Guarantee this has more plastic then the ocean.

  5. I think this is the first mid-cycle update of a full sized GM SUV since the ’95 update to Tahoes/Suburban/Yukon. Maybe this means they’re going to stick with this platform longer than the last three.

    1. I believe they are. I’m assuming all three brands will use this generation cycle with refreshes in-between till ’29.

  6. That’s great but hopefully GM will get some chips so they can build a COMPLETE 2022
Tahoe. I’m ready to order one but do not want an incomplete vehicle. For the kind of money they charge for that vehicle, it should have all the options ordered and be ready to go upon delivery.

  10. It’s good to see the Tahoe is in first place for it’s segment and that it’s getting a refresh soon! Say what you want but this in my opinion right now is the best looking large SUV out there I mean the Jeep Wagoner isn’t bad but it looks to much like an extended version of a Grand Cherokee the original Jeep Wagoner looked like nothing else Jeep offered at the time which is one reason why it was a great looking Jeep everything seems copy cat European today… Everyone wants a cheap Land Rover by Jeep, Kia etc enough already make cars and trucks different looking again and how about more hybrids then V8’s!

  11. Why are they still building these things? They destroy the planet and Mary is committed to saving Mother Earth or so she says. How can she possibly justify not dropping the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade. Nobody actually needs them and the planet can’t survive with them. She dropped the more environmentally friendly Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Volt, and soon the Encore and Trax and suspended the Bolt EV but not these giant things and she thinks she’s an environmentalist.

      1. Ci2Eye what do you drive funny how you don’t mention that in your HATING COMMENT! But anyway these Big SUV’s are being built because people buy them GM and every other car company is out to make money… In other words they are going with the current STATUS QUOTE and can care less about GLOBAL WARMING and the ENVIRONMENT… You should come to UPS where I work and smell the diesel and gas fumes inside the building… A giant corporation like UPS should be using EV vehicles but they don’t! Get out of your bubble world and go outside and see the REAL WORLD AT WORK then tell me how environmentally friendly the WORLD REALLY IS!

        1. ChevyMan,

I was being sarcastic. GM, under Barra claims to be committed to carbon neutrality. They crow about their Zero, Zero, Zero plan and renamed Hamtramck the “Factory Zero”. Yet, if they’re so commuted to helping the planet, why do they still build so many big V8 polluters. Their star car now is a 6.2 L V8 Corvette. The thing they prioritize for production in a microchip shortage era is the big SUVs and big pickups also largely powered by V8s.

If the planet is in peril, why drop the Volt? It was what gm should be pushing as a semi-solution until better options come. Why cancel the Spark, and the Sonic, and the Cruze, and the Encore, and the Trax? Those were the most environmentally friendly products gm had.

I was being sarcastic because Mary Barra talks out of both sides of her mouth. She says one thing but then does something else. I know there are plans for an all-EV future but in the meantime if gm is really as concerned about the planet as they say, they would be eliminating the worst polluters from their lineup instead of the eliminating the efficient models that are not so bad.

There’s a certain politician that travels the globe in his private Gulfstream jet lecturing all the little people about Climate Change and telling them ‘We must act now!’ Folks who drive an old pickup and never venture far from home because that’s all they can afford get told by a billionaire they need to buy a $80,000 electric car or else they are the problem. The irony is that old pickup, though it may pollute, contributes far less annually to the problem than the politician’s private jet. I see gm as having the same duplicity and it’s very annoying to me.

Of course I know the answer to the question. The General has massive costs to incur to convert entirely to EVs and the only products that can make enough money to pay for all that R&D are the very products that are the biggest violators. And, of course that politician has his excuse too. His private jet allows him to travel faster and spread the word to a wider audience about the imminent peril we face.

Yeah, right. Forgive me if I’m not convinced.

In many ways our full consumption has declined while our vehicles have grown. Hippies should be rejoicing…… yet they can be happy. If we were all driving eletric vehicles with solar panels they would complain about that too.

    5. For those of us with Families, especially large families, the vehicles you’ve mentioned don’t suite our needs, should there be more affordable entry-level vehicles in gm’s portfolio?, yes, but for a household of 6 or 7+ the Tahoe and Suburban makes total sense and yes, you can be assured that the large SUV’s that you despise, will also be going All-Electric within the next 2 to 3 years from now.
