The GMC Hummer EV SUV is an upcoming battery-powered model, and essentially marks the fourth-generation of the Hummer nameplate. However, the model is branded as a GMC vehicle and will be sold at GMC dealerships, rather than being a standalone brand like Hummer was previously.
The full-size SUV, which is roughly the size of a GMC Yukon, will be sold alongside a full-size pickup truck variant: the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

Overview
The Hummer EV SUV will offer next-generation performance, capability, and technology. According to GM, the GMC Hummer EV will be offered with one, two or three electric motors – depending on model. The range-topping model will have an output of about 830 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque (explained here).
The Hummer EV will ride on GM’s BT1 platform, which is a variant of the body-on-frame GM T1 platform that underpins GM’s full-size pickup trucks (Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) and SUVs (Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade).
The latest Ultium battery and Ultium drive technology will give the electric SUV the ability to sprint from zero to sixty in about three-and-a-half-seconds. On top of that, the Hummer EV is expected to offer incredible on- and off-road performance, with features like CrabWalk mode. Maximum towing capacity has not yet been released by GMC, though it’s worth noting that its most direct competitor – the Tesla Cybertruck – has a rated maximum towing capacity of 7,500 for single-motor models, 10,000 pounds for dual-motor models, and 14,000 pounds for tri-motor models.
Pricing & Availability
Pricing for the Hummer EV SUV is as follows:
EV2 | $79,995 |
EV2X | $89,995 |
EV3X | $99,995 |
Edition 1 | $105,595 |
Edition 1 with Extreme Off-Road Package | $110,595 |
To note, reservations for the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 and Hummer EV Edition 1 pickup are both currently full. Otherwise, the very first units of the GMC Hummer EV pickup are expected begin to arrive at dealers in the fall of 2021 as 2022 model year vehicles. The SUV, on the other hand, will arrive about a year later.
For now, we expect the models to only available in North America and perhaps in the Middle East – the markets where GMC currently does business. However, it’s worth noting that GM could choose to expand the footprint of the GMC brand outside of those markets, if it so chooses, and the GMC Hummer EV models present a solid opportunity to do so.

As GM Authority reported, it’s possible that GM might offer a military variant of the GMC Hummer EV, if such a need were to arise from the army. If such a model were to be built, it would be offered alongside the GM Defense Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), which may soon have an electrified variant of its own: the GM E-ISV (Electric Infantry Squad Vehicle).
