GMC Canada has revealed the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon for the Canadian market, with an overhauled exterior, a refreshed interior, new technology, and significant changes to the trim level lineup. A number of new options are also offered, including a panoramic sunroof for “an open-air cabin experience.”
The General debuts the 2025 GMC Yukon as the last of its full-size SUVs – which also include the 2025 Chevy Tahoe, 2025 Chevy Suburban, and 2025 Cadillac Escalade – to get a mid-cycle refresh. Here’s GM Authority executive editor Alex Luft’s overview of the refreshed Yukon:
The biggest change of all for the 2025 GMC Yukon is the reshuffle of the available trim levels. The SLE and SLT trims have been retired, replaced with the new Elevation trim. The Elevation serves as the entry-level option, but includes more features than the SLE. Meanwhile, the SUV also gets the AT4 Ultimate trim, a more luxurious variant of the off-road AT4 trim in the same way the Denali Ultimate adds more premium features to the luxury-oriented Denali trim.
The AT4 Ultimate “fuses ruggedness and capability with craftsmanship and refinement,” according to former Buick and GMC global VP Duncan Aldred. Key features of this range-topping trim level include:
- Front skid plate and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires
- Four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension able to raise the vehicle up to 2 inches to improve ground clearance when off-road
- Luxurious Obsidian Rush interior with three rows of full-grain leather seating and Ash Burl wood accents
The exterior includes an aesthetic overhaul and the addition of 24-inch wheels for the Denali Ultimate trim. Inside, a vertically-aligned 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment Center provides the centerpiece for the refreshed cockpit, while climate control switches and knobs are tactile. Available Night Vision sends thermal imagery to the head-up display.
Driver safety and convenience technology includes, but is not limited to, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking. Optional is the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system. Transparent Trailer View and Trailer Reverse Trajectory are features upgrading the SUV’s trailering capabilities, while the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 8,400 pounds.
For motivation, the 2025 Yukon gets three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the optional 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, cranking out 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
While the 2025 GMC Yukon offered in Canada is expected to be very similar to the U.S. configuration, drivetrain options will likely be different. For the 2024 GMC Yukon, only the SLE and SLT were offered with a choice of 2WD or 4WD, with the AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate equipping 4WD as standard. With the new trim level lineup, only the Elevation will likely offer both 2WD and 4WD, with the rest as 4WD only.
Under the body panels, the 2025 GMC Yukon rides on the GM T1 platform. Production will take place at GM’s Arlington plant in Texas, with all trim levels expected to become available toward the end of 2024. Additional details such as price will be revealed closer to production.
