GM is gearing up to massively expand its EV portfolio within the next couple of years. With the recent introduction of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the Cadillac Lyriq, as well as the impending arrival of the Chevy Equinox EV, the Chevy Blazer EV, the Chevy Silverado EV and the GMC Sierra EV, the automaker will soon be offering electric vehicles in the most popular vehicle segments. In fact, GM has announced that it will offer EVs in one-third of all vehicle segments by 2025.
However, this one-third of vehicle segments represents nearly 70 percent of industry volume, according to GM. Think pickups, crossovers and SUVs.
“People want choices, and offering many different choices can meet the needs of many different customers,” said GM president Mark Reuss. “We see strong EV demand in all segments of the market, and people don’t want to leave their segment to go electric.”
As of now, GM’s prospective range of EVs spans across 10 different vehicle segments in North America alone:
- Subcompact crossover
- Compact crossover
- Chevy Equinox EV
- Â Compact luxury crossover
- Midsize crossover
- Chevy Blazer EV
- Midsize luxury crossover
- Cadillac Lyriq
- Buick Electra E5
- Full-size SUV
- GMC Hummer EV SUV
- Full-size Cadillac SUV (likely the Escalade IQ)
- Full-size extended-length Cadillac SUV (likely the Escalade IQL)
- Full-size pickup
- Chevy Silverado EV
- GMC Sierra EV
- GMC Hummer EV Pickup
- Bespoke/ultra luxury
- Commercial van
- BrightDrop Zevo 600
- BrightDrop Zevo 400
- AV (autonomous vehicle)
- Cruise Origin
This announcement comes as no surprise, as GM has announced plans to launch 30 EVs globally by 2025. Additionally, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra confirmed expectations that GM’s EV lineup will be profitable by the time the imperative 2025 calendar year rolls along.

At the rate they are going with these things and the ones they’ve chosen to bring first, it is looking more and more like it will be the wrong third. One again silly gm.
They will do fine as they offer not just electric but both gas and electric at the same time in the same classes.
This change is coming like it or not. Piss and Moan is not going to change things on the new cars.
Now is the time to fight to preserve the classics and the things we need to run them. I fear the gas and oil we need for older vehicle will be eliminated and they will take us out.
And I will not be buying GM in 100% of my purchases.
What ever. What are you going to do phenomenal you need a new car and everything’s electric.
That day is coming and there is nothing you or I can do about it.
I expect the older cars will be regulated out in many areas.
This deal is in more powerful hands than ours.
Have EV’s been tested in Cold places like Alaska? What about EV Police Vehicles, Fire Trucks?
I love the look of the Blazer. However, I will never willingly buy an EV. Build it with a 6.2 and watch it sell!
There is no stopping EVs because they are better.
Eh, I’ve owned a 2020 Bolt for 2 years and Have a Suburban on order because the Bolt doesn’t fit my needs entirely. I will def keep the bolt but there are some things a V8 can do better than an EV. #fueldiversity
Correct. GM listens to purchasers collectively. That’s why SUVs have taken over the market from cars, and EVs will do the same. It won’t happen overnight…SUVs didn’t either, but it will happen
Laws are forcing it. This is not a choice but between driving or walking.
Better for everything?? C’mon, automobiles are tools and all buyers do not use their vehicles in the same way. EVs are great for local travel but for a 1200 mile trip on the interstate from Michigan to Florida (one of my frequent uses) they are simply not competitive with an ICE vehicle in either time or cost to make the trip (particularly with DC fast charging if you can find it). Until EV battery technology improves to at least come close to ICE road trip capabilities the EV market will be limited (unless government mandates for their use).
Not really better but there are very powerful global powers pushing this. Many in our goverment have sold out to them.
Having 2 million models is one thing but what good does it do since they don’t have the capacity to build them. They already have 700 000 reservations across all models but they built 8000 evs in the 3rd quarter. Come on!
The electric vehicles look great and are practical are we going to save money time we tell the ice vehicle that we come custom to as consumers will still be on the roads for a long time coming and many people won’t probably make then change until they have no choice and that time people will buy used ice cars because they won’t and can’t afford to buy new overpriced electric cars
I cannot afford any electric vehicle and the stupid tax credit doest apply to most of Americans. Now give me a earned income credit of 8 or 10k and the dealers don’t raise the prices I might think about it but until then it’s gas and then a moped.
The article didn’t list any CAR categories.
When ICE stops being built, it will be interesting to see what happens to the demand for ICE vehicles.
Some will continue with ICE as long as possible, especially if they do long drives.
Then we will see what happens to gas availability and/or prices.
When EVs sell in more volume, I can’t imagine there being enough charging stations.
