As soon as a vehicle drives off the dealer lot, its value usually plummets. Given the current state of the new and used car market, resale value is more important to prospective buyers than ever before. To help consumers decide which vehicles lose less value than others, J.D. Power has just released its 2024 ALG Residual Value awards, and the Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV is among the honored.
GM did well in the study this year. GMC was one of the top brands, with three entries on the list: the Hummer EV Pickup, the Hummer EV SUV, and the Sierra 3500 HD. The Chevy Corvette, which has consistently strong resale value, also made the list. No Buick models got the honor this year. Unsurprisingly, Lexus and Toyota are the resale value champs, with five and four models on the list, respectively.
“The top brands consistently employ a balanced strategy with regard to trim levels, powertrains, and pricing, which helps bolster residual performance and long-term value for consumers who are shopping in a highly competitive market,” Managing Director of ALG Customer Success at J.D. Power Danny Battaglia said in a statement.
To evaluate vehicles for its residual value awards, J.D. Power’s ALG division looked at 16 different brands giving out awards in 33 segments. The award process consisted of evaluating 311 models through analysis of used-vehicle performance, brand outlook, and product competitiveness. Eligibility requires an automaker to have model line entries in at least four different vehicle segments, so niche startups and exotic brands were excluded.
Compared to the preceding 2024 model year, the refreshed 2025 Cadillac Escalade presents revised exterior styling that incorporates design elements from the all-electric Escalade IQ, such as thin upper lighting signatures and tall vertical lighting elements on the sides of the front fascia.
Moving inside, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade is equipped as standard with a massive 55-inch pillar-to-pillar digital display, which combines a 35-inch driver readout and a 20-inch front passenger display into a single expansive digital layout. Other highlights include a new power open-and-close door feature, 5G connectivity, and an AKG Studio audio system, while the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system is also standard spec.
As for the powertrain lineup, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is standard, while the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine is no longer offered with the launch of the 2025 model year. Meanwhile, the go-fast Escalade-V is powered by the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine.

I bought a new 2024 Escalade luxury for $105K, I traded it for a smaller GMC Acadia Denali. The Red Escalade had 26k miles and was in perfect condition. The most I could get in trade from multiple dealers was $82k. They DO NOT hold their value.
