The 2024 GMC Sierra HD adds six new exterior colors to its palette: Titanium Rush Metallic, Thunderstorm Gray, Sterling Metallic, Redwood Metallic, Downpour Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat. Here’s our first look at the new Red hue.

Assigned RPO code GNT and touch-up paint code WA-170H, Volcanic Red Tintcoat is one of 10 exterior colors offered on the refreshed heavy-duty pickup truck, which include:

  • Cardinal Red
  • Onyx Black
  • Summit White
  • White Frost Tricoat
  • Downpour Metallic (new for 2024)
  • Redwood Metallic (new for 2024)
  • Sterling Metallic (new for 2024)
  • Thunderstorm Gray (new for 2024)
  • Titanium Rush Metallic (new for 2024)
  • Volcanic Red Tintcoat (new for 2024)

The Volcanic Red Tintcoat color is an extra-cost option priced at $645. It is available on all trim levels except Denali Ultimate and can be combined with all available interior colorways.

For reference, here are the six available interior colorways offered on the 2024 Sierra HD:

  • Jet Black (Pro, SLE, SLT, Denali)
  • Dark Walnut/Slate (SLE, SLT, Denali)
  • Jet Black with Kalahari accents (AT4)
  • Obsidian Rush (AT4X)
  • Atmosphere/Brownstone (Denali)
  • Alpine Umber (Denali Ultimate)

Last fall, GM debuted the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD featuring fresh exterior styling, a new interior, powertrain updates, and more. The refresh is highlighted by the arrival of the premium 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, the pinnacle of heavy-duty trucks. The Denali Ultimate trim level is characterized by Vader chrome exterior bits, 20-inch Ultra-bright wheels, and an Alpine Umber interior.

In May, GM officially revealed the first-ever 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition as Big Red’s most capable heavy-duty off-roaders.

Additionally, the 2024 Sierra HD gets new standard equipment across the lineup, including the Sierra HD Pro Safety suite of driver assistance technologies, plus available Adaptive Cruise Control. A wide variety of available trailering assistance tech can be had via the GMC ProGrade trailering system. Max towing figures are rated 22,430 pounds for 2500 HD models, and 36,000 pounds for 3500 HD.

The truck’s exterior features a new front bumper, fascia, and grille treatment, along with the paint color changes. Alongside the refreshed color lineup, the 2024 Sierra HD has eight factory-installed wheel designs available, sized from 17 to 20 inches, and five LPO or dealer-installed wheel sets that are shipped directly to the dealership. This gives the revised pickup 13 wheel options in total.

Inside the cabin, the SLE and SLT trim levels offer a unique interior treatment, while the AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels boast a premium interior treatment. Highlights here include an all-new 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard on SLE and above, plus a new center console, and an available multicolor 15-inch head-up display.

Further tech highlights include built-in Google compatibility plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto, standard on all models except Pro.

Under the hood, the 2024 GMC Sierra continues offering the same two engines, with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine being standard and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine as an option. While power and torque for the gas motor remain the same, the Duramax boasts an improved, SAE-certified output boost to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. For 2024, both the diesel engine and the gasoline engine now connect to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the GM six-speed equipped mated to gasoline-powered models previously.

Production of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD is currently under way, taking place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

  1. Red pickups never sell well and haven’t for decades.

  2. Perhaps in your part of the country. Locally, they can’t keep them on the lot.

    1. For sure. There’s nothing worse than the completely boring “sea” of white, silver and black vehicles out there.

There’s a total misconception that they have a higher resale value. I think in part it’s a mindset of sales persons, rather than a reality.

Earlier this year I had cash ready to purchase a new truck, but I didn’t need or want a special order truck. I told the manager that I wouldn’t buy one until they got blue and red in stock to choose from “in the flesh”. He ordered 2 red and 4 blue. All were sold as soon as they hit the lot. I bought a blue Elevation.

In the last 6 months, there has been a lot more new vehicles in varied colours out there on the roads.

      1. The more expensive the GM truck, the fewer available colors. Plus many are extra cost. A color can become best selling when there are no other choices. Henry Ford did that with black. At today’s prices you should be able to pick from many hues. Who decided black is the only interior people want. Mighty hot out here in the desert.

  3. In Phoenix Arizona red is the wrong Color ..You have to stick with white or silver…

    1. I’ve seen a lot of faded silver vehicles when I lived in the Phoenix valley for 38 years. Best thing I ever did was move out of that wretched place! It also depends on how well you maintain your vehicle’s exterior paint.

      1. you cant maintain against the sun. you have to keep it out of the sun, thats all. all the waxes etc will do nothing in the long run

its a combo of the rays and heat that bakes the paint. lighter colors heat less and absorb less uv. thats why they last longer in the sun.

same as in florida and other places in that tropical range like most of the south
