2024 GMC Sierra HD Production Under Way

The fully refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD got its big debut last October, with GM unveiling an updated exterior, an overhauled interior, a revised trim level lineup, and a few powertrain updates. Now, GM Authority has learned that production of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD is officially under way.

For those readers who may be unaware, production of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan. The official online configurator for the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD went online last month.

Two of the biggest changes introduced with the 2024 model-year refresh include the debut of the new GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate and GMC Sierra HD AT4X. The GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate serves as the new range-topper of the bunch, and is highlighted by Vader chrome exterior trim, 20-inch Ultra-bight wheels, and an Alpine Umber interior treatment, while the new GMC Sierra HD AT4X builds on the preceding GMC Sierra HD AT4 as an even-more capable off-roader model. To note, the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X will have a late launch during the 2024 calendar year.

In terms of exterior updates, the refreshed Sierra HD features a new front bumper, fascia, and grille treatment, while six new exterior colors join the option list. The updates continue into the cabin, where SLE and SLT trim levels offer a unique interior treatment, and AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels offer a premium interior treatment.

As for the powertrain, the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD features the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard, with output rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission, rather than the GM six-speed automatic transmission equipped by gasoline-powered Sierra HD models prior to the 2024 model-year refresh.

Customers also have access to the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, a significant boost over ratings of 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque produced prior to the model refresh. The optional diesel engine also connects to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, under the skin, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform.

Production under way good luck the GMC canyon/Chevy Colorado roll out has been nothing but a disaster between EPA issues that the cars couldn’t be released to four-wheel-drive constraints The list goes on and on very frustrating to say the least. I’ve never ordered a car before until two years ago when I bought my first 911 I have to give credit to Porsche. They did an outstanding job and keeping the consumer informed on the process of the vehicle I’ve ordered this GMC canyon Denali, and wow nobody knows what’s going on and the biggest surprise is GM trying to call them directly. They won’t give you any information at all. Pretty sad well guys production started at the end of January. It’s now March and still nothing I know one thing if you’re ordering this truck now be prepared to wait at least 3 to 5 months before you see it on the lot. Yikes.

You may not have noticed, cause Im guessing I know which “News” that you watch, but there is a global supply shortage, especially with the chips required to produce these vehicles. And there has been a bit of a labor shortage too. Why is this s GMs fault?

Ordered a Silverado in August. It was built in October. It is still sitting at the plant yard in Indiana. They have until April to deliver it to me or I will buy an F150. Been renting ever since.

5 months??? Youre much more patient than I am. I must have gotten lucky. Yes, waited almost a year for a new Bronco, then got the call with a build date. 5 days later it was at the dealer. Go figure

I got my 22 3500 HD Denali DRW in January last year. I guess I’m skipping 23 going straight for 24.

GM really played me on this one. When I found out the 23 wasn’t going to be refreshed, I ordered a truck in April. It’s a 22, and I just got it in September…now the 24s are coming off the line 6 months later. Awesome, thanks GM.

I ordered a 22 in July 21 and never got allocation from the fleet company I was working with. So I bought a 23 last October because I thought it would be a bit before I’d see a 24. Well I placed my order in this week for a 24 and the order was picked up by GM Thursday. No idea how long it will be before I see it but I do have an accepted order. I’m trading off this 23. Hopefully not making a mistake but I was waiting for the refresh anyway. I think the new 10 speed will be a game changer and the new interior looks great. I do agree the console layout in the AT4 looks weird. You can tell there will eventually be provisions for a console shifter and it looks like they just kind of slapped some crap there to cover that spot for now. Putting the brake controller there really makes no sense.

The whole Covid situation has disrupted almost every aspect of life for the past 3 years. The whole world is reeling from the effects of this pandemic. We are all trying to cope with the aftermath. We are all doing the best we can. I’m not sure that saying GM management needs to change is helpful. I believe they are doing the best they can as we all are. Let’s all just hope that in the not to distant future we can order and get some of the best vehicles any manufacturer has ever produced.
    I personally hope for a 2024 Savana van with a 6.6
Gas V8 hooked to the 10 speed Allison transmission. Make a true 4×4 option like with their trucks and what you would have is a perfect all around vehicle.

Finally pulled the trigger and put a deposit down on 2/7/23 for a 23 double cab long box slt. Three weeks later the dealership told me GM was no longer accepting orders for a 23 and I would have to go with a 24. For 24 they have eliminated any of the brown or green color tones. Also gone is leather interior, Bose stereo, heated/cooled seats, bucket seats, and even if your order various options maybe you’ll get them or not.
    GMC has lost my order.

2024 HD center console lay out is questionable. We need a Phone charger where you can actually See the phone and the Trailer break should be where the giant start/ stop is not down on the cup holder… then is that little sliver in the middle long enough for a writing pin? The pad in front of the poorly placed break control what is that supposed to hold? w/ 900+ torque anything you place on that will be on the floor.

Absolutely spot on sir…brake controller seems to be an afterthought! What engineer thought that was the perfect spot for it? What a joke

Agree, the console is weird. Got mine this weekend and the brake controller, layout, charger all work but placement is strange. New dash/screens are fantastic and other changes are great.

Supply chain problems are still an issue. Couple that with 2 recent ice storms in lower MI and a snowstorm going on right now, the struggle bus is still rolling.

Just ordered my 2024 Sierra 2500 Ultimate and they said if I’m Lucky I’ll see it in 6-9 months, I’m only #2 on my dealers list. I hope I see it sooner but not keeping my hopes up, Can’t wait to get this truck, they are beautiful and the interior is superb. I’ve been waiting for this interior refresh before I put this kind of coin down. The interiors have been so outdated for so long.

Looked at Ford F350s a while back – dealer wanted $5K over MSRP. As if! Decided to buy a 23 3500HD PRO earlier this year. Was finally told couldn’t order one. Would have to wait for 24s. Just as well, with the new standard features, the 24 is a bit cheaper than the 23 based on my particular config. PRO is the only one with E85 option. Guess no one wants it. And a 2500HD is all of $500 cheaper. Why even build them at that point?

GMC dropped the SLT for the double cab long box. Chevrolet doesn’t have a build and price for the 2500HD Silverado. Anybody else tried to get an answer? Good luck.

Build sheet for a 2024 GMC 3500 Ultimate was submitted to dealer in January 2024. No updates yet from dealer on anything. If GM would only have some kind of communications with the customer it would sure help. I know there are all kinds of supply issues, just keep the customer informed.
