Following the public reveal of the rugged, off-road capable ZR2 Bison trim on May 31st, 2023, the 2024 Chevy Colorado has been moving steadily close to opening dealer orders, retail order processing, and the moment when units of the midsize pickup truck start rolling off the assembly line, but no specific dates were previously known.
Now, GM Authority has obtained information from sources familiar with the matter, giving the exact timing of each major stage involved in GM’s launch of the 2024 Chevy Colorado.
October 30th, 2023 is the date scheduled for the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2024 Chevy Colorado. This is the same day The General will launch production of the 2024 GMC Canyon, with production of both the Colorado and the Canyon taking place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
Chevrolet dealerships will be able to start placing orders for the 2024 Chevy Colorado through the GM ordering system during the week of August 24th, the same sources indicate. The automaker will begin processing retail orders about a month later on the week of September 28th, 2023.
With the 2023 Chevy Colorado launching the nameplate’s overhauled third generation, the 2024 Chevy Colorado should introduce only minor updates and changes. However, the new model year debuts the 2024Â Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, offering a lineup of off-road equipment, technologies, and capabilities.
GM is once again partnering with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to develop the ZR2 Bison as an exciting option for off-road enthusiasts The Bison enhances the robust off-pavement capabilities of the Colorado ZR2 with even more trail-ready equipment and design features. The ZR2 Bison offers 12.2 inches of ground clearance, a 38.2-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle, and 26.9-degree breakover angle.
With the ZR2 Bison now providing high-level off-road capability, the Desert Boss Special Edition package (RPO code ZDB) offered for the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 will not return for the 2024 model year.
Alongside the normal Chevy Colorado powerplant options, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is motivated by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3BÂ gasoline engine, specifically the Turbo High-Output variant rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Output reaches the Bison’s AEV 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in 35-inch OD Mud/Terrain tires via the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission, plus a two-speed transfer case and power-locking front and rear differentials.

I must be seeing company 2024 Canyons and Colorados roaming around Michigan then.
This is really screwy. I placed an order for a 2023 GMC Canyo n Denali on March 31, 2023 and as of today, there is noe factory allocation to build it. Looks like I will be driving my 2021 Canyon Denali indefinitely. Why does GM come up with theses future production plans without taking care of existing orders? Something is out of wack!
What status number is your order currently sitting at?
CNDR99 is the number that my salesman gave me. No other information available. I’ve been trying to contact GM Executive Resolutions but can’t connect with the person who tried to get back to me. Playing phone and e-mail tag.
So you mean your dealer doesn’t have anymore allocation?
I don’t know how many allocations they have. How is that determined?
I believe the biggest factor is sales numbers of the dealership. It sounds like there may not be anymore allocations for dealers as they build to fill orders and prep for 2024 model year.
Preferred a 2021 camaro 2 SS ever was built 2 dealers no allocation bought different color car off sales floor as cooler ordered was dropped thanks gm
This interesting information. Specially because our colorado 2023 has been built on March 2023 but still at the train station in Missouri for transportation in Canada. I am kind of upset. ….
I ordered 2023 Colorado Jan 18th and it was built March 17th, It’s been sitting 13 weeks in factory lot waiting to ship. Is it true that the Colorado and Canyon with the 4 wheel drive and the Turbo engine are waiting over 3 months for the EPA to sign off on the fuel ratings?
Thank Jeff, for this clarification This side of the border, nobody knows. Even GM that we contacted.
My 2023 Colorado 4 wheel drive with the Turbo engine, finally came in today after being built March 17th and waiting 13 weeks to ship. Sticker on it says no EPA fuel ratings.
Are you from the USA or Canada? I just try to be encourage that I will get soon. I am also waiting for 4WD Z71 ….
Thanks
I’m from Iowa, just 4 hours away from Wentzville Missouri Plant where the Colorado and GMC Canyons are built.
Who in the GM hierarchy has their supreme knowledge of what the hell is going on with their business? I would like to know.
So laughable. The 2023 MY vehicles have not been delivered to anyone other than Press/Youtubers.
What is a MY vehicle?
MY = model year
Thank you . Pardon my ignorance.
We’ve delivered to a lot of non-YouTubers and the Press…..
Whypac that’s simply not true, I have had my 2023 Colorado Z71 for a couple months, and I see several on the road, I don’t work in the auto industry or any affiliate.
Is yours 4 wheel drive with the turbo engine?
Yes mine is a loaded Z71 with, sun roof, 20 rims, 360 vision, package groups 2 and 3, factory spray liner, advanced trailering package.
I have over 5,000 miles on its been perfect, no issues at all with it everything works as it should. averaging 22.1 mpg
Wth are you talking about? Your comment is laughable.
Same situation….ordered average LT in January, built week of March 6, have VIN, printed window sticker, as of today ….still waiting in MO for dispatch! Obviously didnt pay to order early.
Lack of car haulers and railroads are backed up with freight. Yes some have had to wait for chips or parts. GM is not the only one with this problem.I waited 6 months for my Santa Fe Calligraphy I finally sent a email to the President of Hyundai America 2 weeks later it was delivered.
I have been trying to connect with GM Executive Resolution department and can’t seem to get through to them. I phoned and left email so, to no avail. I think the guy is telling me to @#$& off.
LOL! Seriously? Do you not have a car to drive now? If I was that guy you would be accurate in your assumption.
So, I’m waiting for my dealer to get an allocation.. What I really want to know is, “What new for 24? Like an ELECTRIC REAR SLIDING WINDOW?” At the rate things are going, I’m assuming I’ll be getting a 24 WITH a price increase.
3 local dealers would not budge from MSRP for an ordered ’23 ZR2. OK, but told one that I should get a discount as the earliest it might arrive is September or October, well into the model year. At this point I shall wait and order a 2024. If production begins by the end of October, perhaps I might receive it by late winter or early spring? Or, buy something else. Grr!
This Colorado/Canyon rollout has been totally botched.
Seems the one thing they can roll out is the Silverado. They seem to have chips and shipping logistics worked out for that. I suspect they gambled on the Silverado poured all their resources into it, and now are offering 10K off the MSRP to get them off the lots. Once that Silverado inventory is depleted you will start seeing the Colorados show up on the lots.
