General Motors pulled the sheets on the 2023 GMC Canyon last August, revealing an all-new third generation for the midsize truck. Among the many updates in store was the debut of the off-road-capable Canyon AT4X trim level, highlighted by the limited-run Canyon AT4X Edition 1. Now, according to a GM executive, it’s been revealed that the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 sold out in just a matter of minutes.
The insight was provided by Global Vice President of Buick, GMC, and GMC Hummer EV at General Motors, Duncan Aldred. During a recent media presentation, Aldred stated that the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 sold out in just 10 minutes. Order books for the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 opened with the truck’s debut last August. Unfortunately, GM did not state how many units of the Canyon AT4X Edition 1 will be produced, although it is considered an “exclusive” package.
For those readers who may be unaware, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is the next-level off-roader trim level introduced with the latest third-gen pickup. Highlights include a 1-inch lift compared to the rest of the lineup, plus Multimatic DSSV dampers, 33-inch MT tires, front and rear lockers, and underbody skid plates, not to mention an exclusive Baja drive mode. The interior of the new Canyon AT4X is decked out in the Obsidian Rush colorway with Ceramic White accents.
Meanwhile, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 adds to all that goodness with the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Re-configurable bed rails (RW2)
- Front 30-inch Off Road Grille Light Bar (S3W)
- Off-Road front bumper with Safari Bar (SD0)
- 17-inch Beadlock Capable Wheels (SMU)
- Forward and Rearward underbody cameras (UXA)
- Accessory power distribution box (VBP)
- Performance Front Skid Plate (SIQ)
- Lighting Wiring Kit (RZY)
- Accessory switch kit (VZJ)
- Winch, by COMEUP (VW1)
- Unique Edition 1 Tailgate Badge
Motivation across the 2023 GMC Canyon lineup is sourced from the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, while under the skin, you’ll find an updated architecture known as 31XX-2. Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon began last month at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, while the AT4X trim will roll off the line this spring. Pricing for the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 is set at $64,845, including a $1,495 destination freight charge.

So many complained that the Edition 1 was so over priced. Yet it sold out quickly.
Reality is many realized the price was quite reasonable when compared to the Jeep Gladiator and a far more luxurious truck with possibly better capabilities.
Congrats to the lucky buyers.
This is just a marketing game, Fords been doing the same.
They claim sell out but don’t sell many and often do not say how many were sold.
The real telling thing will be the sale of the AT4X regular edition.
The Gladiator is a poor value at $65k and this is a bit much for a mid size. I hope they sell but based on comment here on price I expect sales will be limited.
I know one should NEVER buy the 1st year of a GM redesign truck. It takes 2 years before they figure out the flaws (usually in the assembly), and chip shortages exacerbates the problem. I’ll be getting a new 2025 for that reason as I do like this truck…
I’m calling BS on the Ed1 selling out in 10 min. I have a reservation, which I have email confirmation for, the day after the release announcement. And when initial release happened pricing was specifically listed at $63k, then 2 months after taking deposited reservations, GMC raised the base Ed1 price to a bit over $66k.
I went and ordered a Denali as well, with a confirmed 2/20 build date which should be the better value and show up months before the Ed1 even makes it to assembly.
I do remember the AT4x being listed on rollout at 63K and I placed my reservation on that day 7-28-22 , when I received my phonecall to order at the dealership the price had changed and I left with a commitment of more money , does anyone have experience with this , because when i ordered it I was given a different price , I would like that price because it was a published amount, I think what was sold out was the vehicle at that price of 63K because its more now when placing the order.
My dealer still can’t place my AT4 order with GM because they don’t have the chip for the “technology package.”. Seriously, you’re taking orders for any vehicles (other than this new release) and telling we potential customers, you don’t even have the parts you need.. 🙄
I’d really be leary of buying a truck that is incomplete. Once GM has their money the incentive to put newly received chips will be into new vehicle builds not a truck they already got paid for.
I’m in no hurry, I’m willing to wait to get exactly what I want, whenever.
If true, then it was super lame of GMC to allow reservations to continue to be placed for months. I placed one about 2 days after opening and thought I was pretty early. But who would have known in the first 10 minutes? Did GMC insiders grab all the stock, while the public essentially gave GMC a free loan via the reservation deposit? Or did scalper bots grab tons of reservations just to resell like so many did with the Bronco? Either way, it does not look good.
My dealer said they were told by GMC that there will only be 1500 units of the AT4X Edition 1. GMC was happy to take my deposit as well and I have a reservation number.
I ordered a Denali and was going to cancel my Ed1 reservation, but my Dealer asked me to keep it and they would take my order once it showed up.
It’s hard to tell from this post if the GM exec was speaking literally or figuratively when he said they sold out in “10 minutes.” Could have just been a figure of speech to mean they sold out quickly. Plus, saying they sold out quickly without disclosing the expected production volume doesn’t tell you a whole lot about aggregate consumer demand.
My Dealer claims GMC is saying 1500 units of the Ed1 truck. They (Dealer) keeps trying to tell me to keep my order as the “Edition 1” truck will hold its value and be a wanted truck for resell later. Can’t see some of the newer vehicles being really collectible or even that sought after as years pass.
I reserved my Edition 1 on 08/11/2022 and my reservation clearly shows the MSRP of $63,650.00, curios to see what becomes of it. Oh and I am a New Vehicle Sales Manager at a GMC Store in Florida. Stay tuned!
1500 is the dealers getting their allotment to hose the early birds with. Whoopee!
I can’t wait for my AT4X addition 1 I went on GM’s website added only with a hardcover and didn’t add on the addition one package and the truck MSRP was $58,000 and change
