GM pulled back the cover on the 2023 GMC Canyon in mid-August 2022, heralding the launch of the midsize truck’s third generation. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the GMC Canyon AT4X trim is scheduled to begin.
Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon‘s Elevation, AT4 and Denali trim levels is already under way, having launched with some fanfare on January 24th, 2023. However, the GMC Canyon AT4X, a new trim level of the truck that is focused on off-road capability, did not start production at the same time.
GMC Canyon AT4X production will start on April 10th, 2023 according to the information obtained by GM Authority, where previously only a spring 2023 production date was known. April 10th is the same date for start of regular production (SORP) as the similar 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2.
As with the third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon trims already rolling off the assembly line, production of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. The Wentzville plant is the same facility that produces the Chevy Colorado, the Chevy Express, and the GMC Savana.
The GMC Canyon AT4X features a factory lift and ultra-wide front and rear tire tracks. It also includes 33-inch tires, underbody skid plates, Multimatic DSSV shocks, front and rear e-lockers, and a Baja drive mode among its standard features, giving it upgraded off-road capability. The interior of the AT4X sports two-tone red and black leather upholstery, an 11.3-inch infotainment system touchscreen, head-up display, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, and more.
GM is also offering a very limited number of 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trucks with a special Edition 1 package installed. This exclusive package adds even more off-road elements, including front- and rear-facing underbody cameras with a wash function, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, an off-road front bumper, a winch, a grille-mounted 30-inch off-road light bar, a front skid plate and a Comeup Winch.
Beyond the Edition 1 package, a Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will be revealed later this year. GM Authority got spy shots of the AEV Edition truck during testing. The AEV Edition will include even more off-road features, possibly including (based on the 2023 Sierra 1500 ATX4 AEV Edition) AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers with heavy-duty recovery points and winch capability, hot-stamped boron steel skid plates, AEV branding, available rocker panel protectors, and more.
The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is powered by GM’s turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in High-Output tune, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque and paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Like other 2023 GMC Canyon trucks it rides on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform, internally known by GM as 31XX-2.
The 2023 GMC Canyon configurator is live. As a reminder, the GMC Canyon AT4X is priced from $56,995 MSRP, including the destination freight charge.

Crazy right now that I know of all of the Dinali’s are on a factory restraint because of the four-wheel-drive and they’re saying they aren’t going to be available until March so they’re not even building those right now my goodness I’ll save one of my big frustrations with the Dinali is they still have a manual rear slider window I mean are you kidding me almost $60,000 and no power rear slider window crazier than that I still am buying one lol
I sell these. My Denali has been built but not shipped yet. Should be soon
Bill, you seem very knowledgeable about the ordering and build process. What dealer are you with? Could you share your contact info?
And my dealer says, I have an allocation and can order your new truck IF you take the “technology package” off of your order … 🤨🤨. I’ll wait and get the truck I want, thank you. 🙄
I like the looks of the GMC. I just wish that GM were going more like Ford and Toyota in offering a hybrid version with the 2.7

That’s crazy not only has the dealer told me that there is factory restraints on the four-wheel-drive. I’ve chatted with GMC advisors and they say the same thing I’ve had an order in since late December and still they have not excepted my build. Very frustrating. I know I had a Porsche built a year and a half ago much different. They have a freeze point you can make any changes to that vehicle during that time and then once the freeze point is reached, they show you the full process of the manufacture of the car all the way until the ship arrives at the port and then as it transported to the dealer I wish GM would do the same thing
Hey Bill Francis if you sell them could you give me an update it’s crazy I was told there is a four-wheel-drive factory restriction, whatever that means and that it looks as though they won’t be lifting that until March. Maybe you can find out more. Thanks again.
That is probably correct. I have 3 sold orders in and the first one is scheduled for the 1st week of March and the other 2 are the 2nd week. My personal Denali is built but in quality control before shipping
My canyon is being built April 10th. When will I receive my trick.
Thank you so very much very helpful. My dealer is clueless. The crazy part is I’ve been giving them all the information on this vehicle. Lol.
Bill can you buy a new 2023 Denali canyon under MSRP?
No, but the good thing is that we aren’t charging more than MSRP
I hope they will give us GM retirees our usual discount on these new Canyons.

Correct me i’m wrong but via GMC Rep. Canyon Denali’s will begin shipping tomorrow March 13. The link can be found on GMC Authority news on here. The EPA estimated gas mileage and accompanying stickers was issue. Fingers crossed as mine has been built since early February sitting on lot in Wentzville..
as of may 12 2023 my edition 1 hasnt even been built yet and no clue when it will be… it is frustrating but im sure it will be worth it
There has been a silver canyon denali at a local dealer for 3 weeks and nobody is buying it. Too expensive?
