The all-new 2023 GMC Canyon was first unveiled back in August 2022, and represents a brand-new, third-generation for the mid-size pickup truck. Now, GM Authority has obtained exclusive details regarding pricing information for all trim levels.
Sources close to the matter tell GM Authority that the 2023 GMC Canyon will start at an MSRP of $38,095, which includes the $1,495 destination freight charge. This will get customers into an Elevation 2WD trim. Meanwhile, the range-topping AT4X Edition 1 starts at $64,845.
Check out the table below for in-depth 2023 GMC Canyon pricing information:
Trim Level | Drivetrain | Powertrain | 2023 MSRP + DFC |
---|---|---|---|
Elevation | 2WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $38,095 |
Elevation | 4WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $41,395 |
AT4 | 4WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $45,395 |
Denali | 4WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $52,495 |
AT4X | 4WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $56,995 |
AT4X Edition 1 | 4WD | Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B | $64,845 |
As a reminder, the introduction of the third generation brings an all-new powertrain lineup. As such, the sole engine available for the all-new Canyon is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which originally launched in the 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra. Unlike the 2023 Chevy Colorado, which receives three different tunes of the 2.7L engine depending on trim level, the 2023 Canyon is only available with the top 2.7L Turbo High Output tune, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
As for the transmission, GM has decided to offer a revised eight-speed automatic, the same one found in the 2023 Chevy Colorado.
Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon is set to kick-off on January 25th, 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. The Canyon will ride on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform used by the previous generation. Known internally within GM as 31XX-2, the updated architecture will be shared with the Canyon’s corporate platform-mate, the 2023 Chevy Colorado.

Woooooooow that is one Pricy little pickup truck.
Best in the segment I would say but Wowsers nonetheless
So the AT4 is priced at $45,395 and you can get a Toyota Tacoma TRD double cab off-road for $38,405. Why would anyone pay $6,990 more for the Canyon?
You can buy a crew cab Nissan Frontier Pro4x for $39,415, $5,980 cheaper than the AT4.
Good grief. Does GM provide the vasoline at those prices?
I mean one is a luxury truck with some options and the other is a 15 year old turd. I’d start by comparing it to the Chevy. Elevation most likely better lines up with the TRD too.
Better check those prices again. Once you equip either one of those with the options that are standard on the Canyon you’re looking at $45k.
The TRD is about the same price with the same options added that are standard on the GMC.
Also you forgo the heavier frame, Rear Disc Brakes and 4 piston front calipers. The cheaper interior of the Toyota. Even consider the Toyota has less power and a horrible seating position.
Their idea id a wider stance us just off set wheels and not a special suspension.
Devils in the details.
The answer simply is GMC has pricing power, where the others don’t. Practically speaking, the others are a better value. The GMC though will have better elevated seating and more comfort, which is worth the price difference.
I owned a TRD Off Road-a solid truck yet the seating position on the floor was terrible, the ride, steering and noise were uncomfortable and the V-6 was anemic at best. Reliability aside, the Tacoma is a hard truck to live with.
People will buy and pay for the GMC and Colorado for those reasons.
reality check: Even the Taco’s reliability isn’t that good. I just read an article online the other day where they said something to the effect of 10 trucks to buy and to counter, 10 trucks to not buy. The Taco was one that article didn’t recommend. I wish I could recall where I saw it and who it was written by so I could leave the link here. Oh well.
If there were a reason not to buy the Taco, I would think it would be for the reasons I mentioned, comfort, ride, power etc. I find it hard to believe it would be because of reliability but I could be mistaken. The Tacoma had the highest residual value of any vehicle in the world at 3 years out (62%) as of a year ago. Not sure if that has changed. Either way it is still in high demand which I believe speaks to quality.
This will be gm’s chance to create a paradigm shift and unseat the Tacoma as the market leader. The quality is going to have to be there. It’s like a first round draft pick. This is all on gm management. Let’s see if they put their money where their mouth is.
reality check: Back in mid to late 2015 I was still working in management for a security company. They just took on a new account at a high end housing complex and they had just gotten a brand new 2015 Taco 2 wd 4 cyl ext cab. The truck was not used in any way like a police car and was just driven slowly around the complex. I can attest to the horrific (lack of) comfort, terrible seating position, bad ride and overall lack of refinement. What did surprise me was the amount of stupid little stuff that broke and/or fell off in such a short amount of time (less than 6 months).
Anyhow, the article I referred to may have been (in part) saying not to buy the Taco for some of the reasons you mention as well, but they didn’t have much good to say about the quality of the truck either. All I know is that I’d never buy one at any price. If I was silly enough to spend $35,000 or more for a truck, the Toyota wouldn’t even be on my radar. For me, it would be the Ford Ranger, then the Ford Maverick and then the Ram 1500.
To bad price is so high I really like this truck.
So how does this compare to the outgoing model trim to trim?
About 4 K on the Denali. But this one has more content and higher quality materials. Plus the added price increases.
Well the prices are high but there are a couple things to keep in mind.
One prices are up on everything now. Almost all vehicles have seen significant increases.
Second on the GMC there are few options. Most of their packages are sold as it comes. There may be a few smaller options on the lower price models. On the higher end most will give you a choice of color and some dealer installed options but little else.
Keep in mind this includes things everyone was crying for. Better interiors, bigger screens. Push button start, rear seat vents, sun roofs, bed lights, larger wheel wells and larger tires. Etc.
Some items like the higher grade interior and HUD may not be found over on the Chevy as some other options may not.
If you don’t want it all the trucks at Chevy will be more Ala Cart and you can pick and chose more what you want in each package.
Trucks like the ZR2 will still be below $50K and offer a great value. The Trail Boss is a good place to start if you want to build your own truck.
GM has given you a number of options and choices here to build or buy about some kind of combination that you would be happy with.
You also will be getting standard things like 4 wheel disc brakes and 4 piston calipers the others just do not offer at a similar price. The bones of this truck are much better than the Ford and Toyota that take short cuts they feel no none notices.
With all this new pricing, it’s almost like gm doesn’t actually WANT to sell any ICE vehicles. Up to $66k for a 4 cylinder truck? TRX pricing for the 420HP Sierra? What a joke.
Go ahead and buy that TRX if you only care about horsepower. But we will laugh at you when you’re at the gas pump every couple days filling up that pig.
I already own a TRX. It’s an amazing vehicle and a lot of fun! I don’t care about mpg, never have.
So you complain that GMCs are priced too high but didn’t hesitate to spend $100k on a TRX? Lots of credibility there John.
I’m going to assume you noticed the MSRP of the TRX went up by $11,000 for next year?
I don’t know where you saw those numbers, but no I haven’t looked since I bought one.
Looking now, it appears both KBB and Carbuzz are reporting a $565 TRX increase for 2023 over 2022.
SMH.
Almost 40 grand for the entry level truck.
WTF.
There really isn’t a WT equivalent in the GMC’s anymore so the Elevation is like a Colorado LT with the high out put engine standard and a few other things thrown in.
It’s called consumer demand. If they don’t add the pricey features consumers complain. (Look at the years of people b!tching about the Sierra interiors for instance.) The more loaded the vehicle is the faster it sells, period. And you’re looking at the premium brand with better differentiation from the Chevy counterparts than in previous years. So yeah, it’s an expensive truck. Fortunately it’s not the only truck.
Do these prices include MANDATORY Onstar? If not, add $1500 to the prices of most of the trims…
Great question! Yes, it’s baked into the stated starting prices. And not most trims, all trims.
Well it’s good they made that change then. Better to be baked in than have a pricey mandatory line item option..
Looks like Chevy trial boss will be the one to get . These way too pricey . 41k starting for 4wd
Is the Trial Boss like the old GTO Judge?
I didn’t even know Chevy made a motorcycle, let alone a trial bike!
So about 6K higher than they should be. About what I expected for Mary’s plan to make ICE so overpriced the upcoming EV’s won’t seem so bad.
Anyone know when the colors, options, etc will be released? Or when GMC.com will have the “build and price” tool available? I miss the old Chevy/gmc colors offered on these trucks, the 2022 colors were pretty limited and boring.
I heard December 15 the build option will become available. I seen that on a YouTube video so take with a grain of salt.
I saw that the 15th was the date on one of these gm authority, but have no idea how long ago.
What I’ve come to realize is that you will never please the masses in this business. You build a truck and someone will always complain about something you did wrong, when everyone is doing the same thing. Prices on all vehicles are going up, oh and remember these are ALL NEW vehicles. The Taco truck is still in the works and will likely be around the same price, if not more, same for the Ranger, and if Ram brings the Dakota back it will probably be the same there. You ask for more standard features, that cost more money, you ask for better materials, that cost more money, you ask for more power, that cost more money. You asked for a Raptor competitor, but then complained about what they gave you. Then everyone is like holy $hit a $41k starting price. You can complain about it all you want but for some of these competitor trucks you are getting way less for that lower starting price than what gm has been offering. Get with the times, that’s just how the economy is right now, and if you actually pay attention to the economy then you will know that it’s not gonna be like this for very much longer because a recession IS coming. As long as there is emerging tech, and competition. people will always want more. If you don’t wanna pay $41k for a 4WD Elevation then don’t, but don’t drag it for being what people asked for.
They only make one configuration and everyone is like wtf, Mary is at it again, but almost all the companies are going to this strategy. I think if people wanted a regular cab they should be able to order one and have it built for them, but just make the crew cabs for the masses because honestly most of the trucks on the roads nowadays are crew cabs. no matter how much you think its bullshit its a fact. Also GMC is a premium car brand, not basic(Chevy) and not luxury(Cadillac), so yes you will pay more for their products. No one is making you buy it. I don’t like it just as much as most of you, but I also see that this is happening with all the companies. Do I think the AT4x is worth $83k, fuck no, but you do also get a hell of a truck for what you’re paying for it. I also think it should’ve gotten the engine from the Tahoe RST Performance edition to differentiate itself more, but that’s another topic.
Everybody wants everything nicer but don’t want to pay for it either. I think GMC will have no problem selling these. Many people want a nice truck but don’t need a fullsize and they want all the options. I was looking at the AT4x but now i’m more interested in the Denali. I will do offroading if I want to but have the options I want.
Amen. Loaded vehicles sell quickly. Ones people perceive as stripped sit around, even if the current “stripped” trims have more options than loaded ones did less than a decade ago. It’s just consumer demand.
Isn’t the RST Tahoe just the 6.2L with performance intake and exhaust? I agree that the AT4X should have the top offering in that regard. As someone who sells GMCs I have LONG been frustrated by GM giving Chevy certain premium options (especially the ZR2) that they don’t even offer on a GMC.
The only thing I think is a miss is the lack of a 2WD Denali, that seems like it would be a natural idea since the Denali buyer is probably the least likely to take it off road.
Are these GMC or Cadillac trucks…can’t tell by the prices.
so a ext. cab is not available with the long box… but gm is going to build a 2wd elevation model… m yeah right makes a lot a sense… whats next GM a 2wd ZR2… they can call it a zr4
Many markets don’t even buy 4WD. Particularly true of most southern states from what I’ve seen. I sell GMCs near an Air Force base where it snows. Whenever someone gets transferred here from a southern state they upgrade their truck which is almost invariably RWD.
Just because you don’t recognize the market doesn’t mean there isn’t one. How boring would the world be if everyone perfectly shared your exact preferences? (Any one specific set, not just yours specifically.)
Was considering the at4 trim but now that the 45k price before any packages and accessories are added has been revealed, I don’t think it’s a smart practical purchase at all. Honestly if they had it at 39k before packages it would steer many people their direction but gm has overpriced its product imo. The detuned Colorado isn’t priced much better either. Wait and see what Toyota offers with its 4th gen taco.
GMC has pricing power whereas others don’t. The others are cheaper. The GMC’s higher seats and comfort are worth the extra cost.
