GM offers a wide range of safety technology features, one of the most critical of which is Automatic Emergency Braking. Notably, most 2023 model-year GMC vehicles include Automatic Emergency Braking as standard. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the range of safety tech features on offer across the GMC lineup.
In this post, we’re examining 15 different tech features offered across the GMC lineup, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, and Safety Alert Seat, among others. Our list also includes eight GMC vehicles, including the brand’s crossovers, SUVs, pickups, and the all-electric Hummer EV Pickup as well. From there, we break down which models offer which features, including whether the feature is standard or available, as well the associated RPO codes.
With that covered, let’s take a closer look at the 2023 GMC vehicle active safety features list:

As we can see, Automatic Emergency Braking is included as standard for most 2023 GMC vehicles, with the exception of the 2023 GMC Sierra HD, which offers the feature as optional, and the GMC Savana, which doesn’t offer the feature at all. Additionally, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup offers Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking as standard.
Notably, the only feature on this list that the GMC Savana does offer is Forward Collision Alert, which is optional. The rest of the features are unavailable. However, that isn’t all that surprising given just how old the GMC Savana is.
The GMC Sierra 1500 and GMC Yukon are also noteworthy for offering the 12 of the features on the list, the most of all eight models listed. The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is also noteworthy for including all of its active safety features as standard.
Per the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Automatic Emergency Braking is particularly important for pickup trucks, as an IIHS study has shown that the feature can reduce pickup truck crashes by as much as 43 percent. Notably, the feature is included as standard for the GMC Canyon and GMC Sierra 1500, but only offered as optional for the GMC Sierra HD.

I would always choose a vehicle with active safety features over another .
My 6 year old car, my 1 year old motorcycle have active safety features.
My 1 year old Chevy Sports Car, has no active safety like braking, active cruise control, pedestrian safety.
Just another reason to avoid GMC vehicles. I – me – myself – will be in control of if, how, and when my vehicle brakes.
You’ll be very safe by taking the bus instead of driving any car by any brand.
Since September 2022, AEB is required on all light-duty cars by NHTSA (HDs come in 2025).
I have a vehicle now with full safety features. Ehh!
Nothing replaces true driving skill and just being focused on driving.
The auto braking now works at low speed and still has issues. It will pick up false signals including shadows. Also at times it will miss a signal.
Active cruise I do enjoy.
Lane assist is a waste. Too often it picks up tar strips in the road.
I just find that these systems are still not to where you can or should fully rely on them. The focused driver is your best bet.
