Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Is Selling Quite Fast

The ZR2 Bison version of the 2021 Chevy Colorado pickup truck is finding customers on average 33 days after arriving on dealer lots, GM Authority has learned. This data point, collected at the end of February 2021, is slightly more than half the 60 days considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry, and suggests that the rugged truck is in high demand.

The Colorado ZR2 Bison is not a standalone vehicle. Instead, the Bison is essentially a package for the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2, which is the range-topping Colorado model that differs considerably from all other models in the Chevy Colorado range.

Standard equipment on the Colorado ZR2 includes:

  • All-new, lettered, flow-through “Chevrolet” front fascia
  • Segment-exclusive Multimatic DSSV position-sensitive dampers
  • 2-inch suspension lift
  • Cast iron control arms
  • 3.5-inch wider track
  • Standard front and rear electronic locking differentials
  • Autotrac transfer case
  • Off-road rocker protection
  • Multiple skid plates
  • Standard red tow hooks
  • Sand Dune Metallic exterior color option (now shared with Colorado Z71)

The ZR2 Bison package was developed by aftermarket off-road and overland equipment manufacturer, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), whose logo includes an image of a bison. Chevrolet collaborated with AEV to produce the Colorado ZR2 AEV Concept, an extreme version of the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2. Chevy described this vehicle at the time as expanding the performance envelope of the segment-redefining Colorado” while demonstrating “the capability of Colorado and its off-road performance variant, the Colorado ZR2”.

Today, the ZR2 Bison Package is available exclusively on the Colorado ZR2. It is priced at $5,750 and includes the following equipment:

Exterior:

  • CHEVROLET lettered grille with Flowtie logo
  • AEV Front Bumper
  • Fog lamps (T3U)
  • AEV rear bumper (VHU)
  • Wheel Moldings (B7O)
  • Fuel tank skid plate (PZ9)
  • Front skid plate (PZG)
  • Rear differential skid plate (PZL)
  • Transfer case skid plate (PZN)
  • 17-inch AEV aluminum wheels (RIG)
  • 17-inch AEV spare wheel (S4M)

Interior:

  • Front floor liners (CPX)
  • Rear floor liners (CPY)
  • AEV Embroidered Headrests

Chevrolet does not split ZR2 or ZR2 Bison sales from those of the regular Colorado, so we don’t know exactly how well they are selling. The Colorado was the sixth most popular Chevy vehicle in the U.S. in 2020 at 96,238 units, down 21.3 percent during a very difficult year. However, it improved by 8.7 percent in Q4 when the industry was beginning its slow recovery.

  1. Keep in mind they are limited production and dealers only get so many.

Now the ZR2 is not limited and GM will build as many as the public wants.

    1. Actually they Bison is not as limited as your comment implies. They will build as many as are ordered. This was communicated in a recent message by GM to dealers. Order away folks!

      1. Well excuse me for quoting the original statement by GM.

Even with that supplies would be low with slowed production due to virus and chips.

If so enlighten you could post a link to the GM statement to help out.

Right now I have a Forum friend who is trying to order a 2021 ZR 2 Midnight with mixed replies from several dealers.

        1. There is no link to anything. It’s something by GM reps. Simple as that.

If your friend is having issues ordering one, it’s because the dealers might not have any more allocation this order cycle and may need to order a 2022 instead.

  2. Who cares if it’s limited or not buy it and enjoy it…not as an investment but as a vehicle to be driven…and it’s awesome! 😎

  3. I would consider the Bison if it was available in a crew cab long bed. I currently drive a CCLB Z71 4WD Duramax Colorado.

    1. Longer wheelbase of a crew cab long bed would somewhat compromise the off-road capabilities of a ZR-2. Form follows function.

  4. More like the dealers are trying to get rid of over improved lot stock. And to go with the GM theme of “what can we cheap out on now”, the front brakes on the sisters have been down graded.

  5. There is no reason not to offer it longer and as a crew cab…also they should make and SUV out of this thing already come on GM…your behind as usual Jeep has the Gladiator, For the Bronco…make another K5 Blazer or another GMC Jimmy…you build it and they will come!
