U.S. GM Sales Increase 5 Percent To 771,323 Units In Fourth Quarter 2020

GM sales increased 5 percent to 771,323 units during the fourth quarter of 2020 in the United States market. Sales increased at Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands, while decreasing at Buick.

“GM outperformed the industry in the quarter and the full year by a significant margin because our manufacturing and supply chain teams and dealers helped keep people safe at work and our launches on track,” said Steve Carlisle, GM executive vice president and president, GM North America, in a press release. “Extraordinary teamwork has set up everyone to succeed in 2021 as the economy continues to recover and we further ramp up truck and SUV production,” he added.

  1. Remarkable performance given the current inventory situation. There are currently ~22k Silverado’s available in the U.S. I recall years where Silverado inventories were 120K units higher than now. Same goes for all GM BOF trucks, not to mention the corvette which has nearly 0 vehicles in stock.

  4. At Buick, the Enclave, Envision and Encore GX each showed increasing totals.

As might be expected, the older Encore is down (who, if they could afford it, wouldn’t choose the Encore GX instead?), and the LaCrosse, Cascada and Regal are, of course, discontinued.

Given that, Buick’s sales seem reasonable.

Jim – They have an Envision GX coming, so what else should they be doing?

Exactly. Even moderatley positive items here go largely ignored. If this were a “Rendered: 76 Fleetwood with Chevy Spark Attitude” thread we’d be up to 77 comments by now.

  6. Chevy outsold Ford in Q4, Toyota was 1st.
Chevy needs a proper E-Series and Transit concorrent (real Ford advantage in numbers), a new Malibu to grab Ford’s market (or a Civic-based sedan) and boost Trailblazer production. It could easily become the best-selling brand.

  7. GM closing off a bad year positively. Was expecting further decreases, but it seems as if consumer confidence is slowly rising. GM should strongly consider moving the upcoming new Envision production from China though, I feel that vehicle will be well received in the markets.
